My vintage doily
1 Attachment(s)
Added the quilting to my border. Now to figure out what to use for binding. This has been so much fun. Only paid a dollar for this little one. So no big loss if I messed it up! I've been collecting these doilies and various vintage pieces to free motion on. Can't wait to get to them!

Very nicely done. I'd bind in whatever color you want to 'pop' more out of the doily itself.
very nicely done... did you tack down the lacy border of the doily?

They are coming out beautifully. What are you planning to do with them once quilted??
Love it. Very well done.
Very pretty! I might do the binding in the same off white as the background so it doesn't distract from the doily.
So beautiful. You did a very nice job. Love the vintage doilies.
Just lovely. BrendaK

Very pretty! You do lovely quilting on these vintage pieces! :)
Very lovely, whatever you decide to do with them. I know my local senior center would love to hang them. I bet yours would too.
this one came out really pretty
Exquisitely done!
came out very nice!!!!

what a brilliant idea - I have several done by a cousin of my husband's and she passed away with no one to take any of her handiwork - thank you so much for this idea - I can make a throw or ??? now! Depends on how many I have, I never counted when no one wanted this "stuff". I love "stuff"............. maybe why my son thinks I'm a fabric and notions hoarder! Yours turned out gorgeous! So pretty!

I'd go with Tartan. It is so very pretty, and soft looking. I love it.
Nice job. Have you seen Cindy Neadham's quilts where she incorporates vintage hankies and linens? I can't figure out how to copy the link, but if you go to Pinterest, she has lots of images there.

It's beautiful. Your quilting is awesome.
Very pretty! I would audition a dark green to repeat that edging.

I can't take credit for this idea. I'm in a Facebook group called Quilting Vintage. Awesome group. I've really learned a lot there. Good luck with your doilies! |

So feminine and lovely!
How clever! love it.
What a great idea. Of course my quilting is nowhere near as great as yours. Lovely.
I like your border and the quilting you did in it. I think the binding should be the same as the border so you don't detract from the lovely vintage doily. I think a color would be a distraction.
What a lovely job you have done! Thank you for sharing with us!
what a great way to practice your quilting.
love the way you did that
I would use the same color green as is around the crocheted piece.
It would be great if you have any dotted swiss...
Very pretty, great quilting!
That is awesome...I have a lot of doilies my mom made and have them in a box. I may have to do something with some of them....
Just have to point out that this is a hankerchief with a crocheted edge. I grew up with doilies and they are all crocheted. Not just borders. At least according to my German mother. I still remember having to move them all to dust the furniture and the design left behind where they layed on the furniture. We had every surface covered in these and dresser scarfs. I remember my mom starching the doilies and pinning them on a board to dry. She also still has a pack of beautiful hankies in the drawer. Thanks for the memories and for working with and preserving this history no matter what we each call them. Great job

I never would have thought to combine crochet with quilting. That is really different. Beautiful work!
Doily is beautiful. I like how you put border on it, really shows it off. I would bind it with a dark green like the edge of doily.
so elegant.
Nice job, i have so many doilies, I collected for the same purpose.
I really like it! A great way to show off doilies and hankies that not many people use today
