It is sad to think he didn't want the quilt his mom made for him but so many younger people do not realize the love and time spent in a quilt made by someone and given to them as a gift. Yep you were lucky to get this one.

I think we may be too hard on this young man. I remember that I once had quilts (baby and bed size) that a grandmother or another relative had made. I didn't quilt back then, and although I loved those quilts, I just used them up and somewhere along the way they disappeared, probably when the batting was coming through all over. I would love to have them now that I appreciate quilting, but I can understand that the young man probably thought that his mom would be around forever to make him more quilts.

I too understand how those we give quilts to don't understandf the love and caring that goes into making one. I hope someday my kids understand the loving quilts that I have and will continue to make for them.
|
I also understand as well, I'm so pleased to have it, and my Grandkids will get lots of use from it.

Gosh too bad he didnt want it since his mom made it glad yu gave it a new home
|
Awww. So sad. I am glad you have it though. He probably would have sent it to a thrift store and God knows where it owuld have ended up. Such a gorgeous quilt!

Some people just have no idea. Maybe there should be rescue leagues for unwanted quilts! Think of all the wonderful, loving homes unwanted animals get adopted into.
Obviously, this quilt just took on a new life when you took it home. I'm guessing his Mom would be hurt by him selling it and only for a mere $20, but the fact that you took it home to appreciate it would please her. |
Great score!!!!Love the quilt-if you have someone from the documentation project with the University of Michigan nearby they can date the fabric for you
|
Why on earth would you ever part with something like that? I would never part with any quilt that was made for me, but especially not if it was made by my mother!
|
I agree it is a beauty....love the fabrics. I guess no one knows the full story, but a quilt found a loving home, which is the main thing. Who knows where a quilt will end up down the track.....long as it's used and loved is all I wish for any of mine.
