Name that block

Family lore says this is from World War I. I have looked through all sorts of resources, including Jinny Beyer's humungous book of patchwork patterns. But I can't find the name of this block. Do you know what it is?
The quilt looks like this: The mystery block alternates with uneven nine patch (or puss in the corner). |
It almost looks like an X's and O's quilt, but not quite.

I can't name the block, wish I could. It's a WONDERFUL quilt and you're very lucky to have it in the family.

i looked through my "1001 Patchwork designs" by Maggie Malone. Looked a little like one she calls " girl's joy' but
not exact. |
It is known as Night and Day 2 on Quilters cache.
Edited to add, I'm making a quilt now out of this block. |

That is breathtaking. Thank you for the wonderful picture and thank you JenniePenny for knowing the name and where to find this fabulous pattern. It's been added to my USB/Flash drive

Yes, "Night and Day" is similar to one in Jinny Beyer's book, but the proportions are just a bit different. I tried to duplicate the block, and it's really difficult. Makes sense to piece it by hand as Aunt Eliza did.
