I made this Navitity wall hanging for my church. I wanted it to look like stained glass. I used tissue lame' and ready made bias tape that had fusing on the back of it. Not sure the tape was a help or hinderance.

Wow! Was this your own design?
It will be appreciated year after year by many. I think it's simplicity speaks to old and young alike.

Thank you so much for the complement. I use a pattern called Stained GLass Holy Family #202 by Subtle Endeavors 1994.

There is on comparison to cotton. Cotton is the easiest. I fused the tissue lame with the sewable fuse. The "glue" stuff wants to come though to both sides. The completed wall hanging is a little stiff because of the fusible, but it's a wall hanging so stiff is ok. I even did the binding with tissue lame.
I did two things different with the binding. First I did not press it in half. I think I have more control with it pressed in half. Second I zig zaged fusible thread on the edge and back of the binding seam. I liked doing that, except after I fused I couldn't get it to wrap quite as tight to the back. I'll always press in half and I will try the fusible thread again.

What a beautiful hanging, great job, love the tissue lame' Our country church has been added onto so the old windows were boarded up and covered with curtains. Lately they took the curtains down and have been backed with pretty wood and have sconces centered on them. Pretty but I would love to make stained glass quilts to hang and change during the year. Was it difficult to make and how much trouble was the bias tape? The fusable thread might be a winner to help with that part of it. Again, beautiful. Take a picture when it is hung inside the church. Blessings :D

That is truly beautiful!! You did such a wonderful job with it!! :D :D

Olivia's Grammy 11-28-2009 04:27 PM

Actually it was easy to make, just a took a little time, bc you can only do one section at a time. The bias tape also, had to be done once piece at a time in order to cover the ends. The pattern was well written and easy to follow.
