Thanks for all of the postive commits... the name of the pattern it Southwest Mdeallion by One Horse Studio. I found the pattern here www.quiltingbookspatternsandnotions.com It requires a 9 inch wedge ruller, the center is acutally a circle, but the outer edge is the same as the background, therefore giving you an oblong look.

Gorgeous job and your son will be thrilled that you used his gift of fabric in making him a quilt.
