Funny... I thought you were referring to the color. Duh. The ships are awesome. I may decide to do a Navy quilt soon. My cousin is serving on a ship.

Do I leave it as one piece. He is current in a warm state, but have orders to a cold state up North; any ideas. It will definitely be a future project, still have two quilts I need to get finished before the end of next month.

That is great fabric. When I was at retreat I took a picture of a ladies quilt block that I thought was so neat for a great print. I don't know the name of the pattern but you might be able to figure out the block or a similar one.

Hmmmmmm. From the fabric on the left, you could make rectangles that highlight the important motifs (perhaps a bit of fussy cutting?) and then "frame" them using the fabric on the right. For added interest, you might add additional borders of red, white, and blue. (Think: matting around a framed piece of art.)

Another way to go is to make a "6 Hour Quilt," pattern by Kaye Wood. Since all strips are cut 6" wide, the pattern on the fabric isn't terribly obscured. You could use both your fabrics and supplement them as needed to achieve your desired finished size.

The one on the left I would definitely do as a panel, border it with one of the colors in the panel that would coordinate, and outline quilt the figures. It would make a great bunk-size quilt. The other one could be used for backing on a quilt. They are both great fabric.

great fabric.

You could use the one on the left as a large panel-type piece in the center, and use the other around as a border, with perhaps a solid navy blue piping or narrow border in between.

That sounds like a good idea. Will put that on my list also.

I use to be in the Navy, and I loved it

This was one of the first ideas but was not sure what kind of border. Striaght line or different pieced blocks?

Love the fabric. God bless these service men and women!

Another great idea. You all are wonderful, got me wanting to stop doing what I am doing and work on this. Thanks to all of you.

I made this one for my SIL, the commander. He loved it!!

Sewfine 07-23-2011 03:26 AM

What a gorgeous quilt. I love it too.

Phannie1 07-23-2011 03:37 AM

My son served in the Navy. I want to make him a quilt using the same fabrics. I also plan in using some photo prints of his ship and ship's logo in some of the squares. I have it in my head, it is still a few projects away. God Bless those who are serving and have served in our Armed Forces.

When it is too cute to cut up. I put it as the center of a quilt and put a one inch border and an eight inch border around it to frame it.

BrandyMcCoy 07-23-2011 04:44 AM

Lap quilt...lol....just my input:)

That sounds neat, but I don't know how to do that. His first ship was the USS Ronald Reagan, it would be nice to put that on there plus the second and the one he's on now. I just love this board.

boohoofish 07-23-2011 12:11 PM

Make a lap throw. Large piece of the ships in the center, the navy seal for a sashing/border, the next border white stars on navy, another of the navy seal and bind it in navy. Just a thought. Carol
