Well, I got the border on. I will post it with my final decision when I get it quilted and bound. :) Thanks for everyone's advice.
I have it sandwiched and am setting up my machine for FMQ now. Hopefully I don't totally botch it. It will be my second time FMQ.
Wish me luck!

I need to make it 9" bigger all around. I am out of half sq triangles, so no matter what I do, I will be cutting more.

Should I
A. continue one more row all around ending in 1/2 square light diamonds all around.
B. make a full row all around with scrappy dark HS triangles (shown in second pic).
C. Border all around in a 9" strip of dark or light (maybe 4 1/2 of each?) fabric
D. any other brilliant ideas?

I would add three or four graduated widths borders in shades of blues. You will finish the quilt and it will be lovely. You will never find material to "match " your controlled scrappy look and new fabrics will just look like you ran out of fabric. I think you did an excellent job of creating this quilt from scratch.
