Actually, I got to thinking of using a D9P when I saw a quilt (on this board) that used 4 colors...but looked a lot like yours. The difference was that where you use one color in the corners (the ones that don't get cut) this person used 2 colors instead. I'm still not ruling it out. I think I'll end up making a few different blocks and then decide. Sure do appreciate your input. BTW, I like your Avatar!

I started thinking a D9P might work because I could use the least amount of fabric as the center square. Hadn't thought of a 4 patch...thanks for suggesting that! I'll check for a tutorial.
Yes it will work, I'm doing one right now for my FIL. I used the two fabrics I have the most of for the outside squares (alternating placement) and the other two fabrics for the center squares.
