I had some of this, used it for making Aprons for one of our Condo Assoc. sales. They went like hotcakes. I never knew what those little marks were either, But didn't know what else do do with the fabric.

Its 'dish towel cloth'.Back in the day we had a Tiedtke's store in downtown Toledo and I remember my Gramma and Great Aunt buying it for 18 cents a yard. GA would embroider all the embelishments and G would sew the hems. This was back in the 60's. Thank you for reviving these childhood memories :-) :-)

It looks to me like fabric for flour/feed sacks. It's probably been in someone's stash at least from the '50s, maybe before.
|
very nice find.:)
|
It would look good as a center table runner.
|
Barb maybe it was a table cloth and someone cut it down to use as a runner?? It is bright and pretty...crafty_linda_b

I looks like it might be a feed sack fabric someone made a dish towel out of. It's really neat and looks like 30's or 40's design. Only a guess but Grandpa used to buy chicken feed in those sacks. I'm 69 and this was back in the late 40's.

Picture of my fabric, as requested. It does feel like dish towel fabric.

I have seen that sort of fabric before, but long ago. My guess is that the designer intended the dashed lines to look like handwork, maybe topstitching over appliqued edges. Notice that the lines continue where one overlaps another. I don't think they were intended as a users sewing lines.
If it were mine, I'd cross cut those WOF groups of 3 flowers and use them as a rectangular block, maybe alternating with red, blue, yellow and green blocks. Or maybe square them up with strips of those colors. for sure you have enough for a nice quilt that way. |
Agree--available in long pieces for you to finish, this is printed to look quilted. Huck toweling is still available as yardage.
Look pretty as slip covers for kitchen chairs? Table runners, too. Huck towels (blue or green) are also used in surgical packs that are sterilized at a zillion degrees with high atmospheric pressure...bottom line is they are very sturdy |

Husband was born in Detroit. Still has close relatives there and in Warren. Nephew lives in Kalamazoo.

It looks like dish cloth fabric being only 16" wide

It would also make a nice tablecloth, the lines were made to sew around, as in quilting lines. If you put a very thin layer of batting under each flower, etc. and hand sew on the lines, they would puff up a bit. Same for dish towels.
It is happy and pretty fabric. By the colors, someone bought this a long time ago. |
Chances are it's toweling.

To me it looks like dish towel fabric, especially with the short width and the edging. I think it is similar to pillow case tubing that my Mother would buy to embroider pillow cases. This is similar in that I believe it is to make dish towels. Now how about that for a nice, concise description of what you have recently acquired. (See I can be as confusing as the next person.) lol

I have a vintage/ antique table cloth that looks exactly the same (material wise), except it has a yellow/ white checkered background with bright flowers...in the same reds and blues. I would say kitchen cottons :) It's cute as a button!

But it washed up real nice and there is about 9-10 yards of it. Thanks for helping! Barb  |
Very pretty so retro.

It looks like a 50's fabric. Pretty and a lot to work with.

Could it be a feed sack???
