I got a sweet vintage sewing machine cabinet off craigslist (w/o sewing machine), and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me identify what kind of machine it was orrignally for.
I haven't decided whether to modify the cabinet to hold a machine I have, or just keep it "as-is". Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all! Guessing cira 1950's or 60's |
Wow! That cabinet is in great condition! Very pretty!
Sorry I can't help with what machine was in it. |
That looks very much like the ones I've seen that had Singer machines in them. I don't recall other brands having cabinets like that, but then I didn't really see any machines that were not Singer that were in a cabinet, other than my grandmother's White treadle that my uncle put a motor on.

I looks to me like it is a 50's style cabinet. If it is, it's half way to being an antique. It is a beautiful cabinet, and when you get tired of it, it can come live with me.

I am pretty sure it was a Singer Touch & Sew. But if you measure the opening, Billy at Lostn51 can tell you what kind of machine to look for to put into it.

How did you know that I now need to look for a machine to put in it?

Looks like a Singer cabinet to me. Nice piece.

I just got a cabinet off of Freecycle and it fits my old Kingston perfectly! You just need to measure the space between the 2 hinge thingies on the back of the cabinet and measure the hinges on any machine you have. I don't know for sure but I think that space may be pretty standard.

The color & leg style remind me of the 50's. I think the cabinets were pretty standard for the opening. I have my mother's cabinet that she got when she got married in early 1940's. I was able to put my Singer machine in the cabinet in the early 60's.

I got a Singer Futura in high school some 35 years ago and it was in a cabinet just like this one.
