I am getting ready to quilt the mystery quilt that I did. I was thinking of using a light blue thread and doing a meander. (I meander most of my quilts). But, I'm wondering if it would look funny on the quilt. What do you think would look good. I will be doing this on my own sewing machine, regular size, and I am not skilled enough to do fancy designs yet. I included a picture of the backing fabric if that might help at all. Thank you.

Beautiful quilt and meandering will look lovely.

Yeap I think the light blue thread and the meandoring will be beautifal. You did a great job on the quilt. Its beautifal.

I would quilt a straight line through the diagonal blocks and echo quilt around the stars. Meandering on the borders. IMHO.

That is a beautiful quilt! Meandering will look great, especially with light blue thread.

I would do a twisting ribbon down the blue paths, then echo the stars to the blue path ways, and then meander the borders except the large blue corner stones and I would put a large star in them. Just an idea.

Magnolia, you did a wonderful job piecing the top! I think your quilt thread color will be great. You might want to cross hatch the center by stitching diagonally at each block intersection, then around the border choose a simple design to stitch in outline quilting, like a floral to match what you have on the backing. Just take care to mark lines with disappearing pen/pencil.
Cross hatching is criscrossing at corners of pieced blocks. |
Variegated blue thread top and bottom and meander if that is what you are comfortable with.

Lots of good ideas on here. Not sure which one I like best. I feel a little scared to do echo quilting. Afraid I would mess up such a pretty quilt. However, if I did cross hatching in the middle like SassySewer suggested I could use my walking foot to make it a little easier. I will post pictures when I get it finished. It may not be for a few days. I also have two other quilts sandwiched and ready to go.

Ooh, I could use the walking foot to help with the echo quilting. Maybe crosshatching with echo quilting around the stars, something in the border and stars in the dark blue corners like kwiltcrazy suggested.

Very pretty!

On your borders you could continue the theme with continuous line stars. I'm sorry I can't find my link, but if you google free continuous line quilt designs you'll find some sites with free patterns and great ideas. Found it!! http://www.allcrafts.net/quilting.htm I would have taken directly to the continuous designs, but there's sooo much at this site that's great to see. Just scroll down and you'll see it. |

I do meandering on most of my quilts too. I haven't yet done one that did not look ok with meandering.

I like your green stars
