Need Ideas for Quilting This

1 Attachment(s)
Now that I have the top done for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", I am not sure how to finish it. I feel that I would not want to go all over, but I do want a bit of stitching just to secure the layers. It is moderate in size... 31 x 32 inches and machine applique. Does anyone have a suggestion that would enhance my little lion?

It is soooo cute! I don't have a clue for quilting, but I just wanted to say its adorable.

i'd be tempted to quilt all of the background to have your wonderful appliqes pop. on the lion, i'd sitd on the lion's details but do curly lines in the mane. maybe sitd the leaves of the tree, too.

I am assuming this will be a wall hanging. The quilting density will depend on the batting you choose. I agree with Nancy's idea. Do an all over design on the background and then just some details on the lion and tree. You can choose some similar density pattern for the border.

It is very cute.

I am not expert enough to have a clue on quilting but it is so pretty!

Could you quilt along the grass lines for texture in the background?

Really cute...

Cute quilt. Don't know the answer to your question, all I can hear in my head are the Tokens singing "Wimoweh,Wimoweh,Wimoweh,Wimoweh..."

Darling quilt. I'm sorry, I can't help on the quilting.

I agree with Quiltn Nan she has good insight into quilting. Your quilt is just awesome. Love it.

Quiltn Nan's idea is great. The lion will really pop then.

Very cute and quilting will make it even more so. Some good ideas have been posted already.

No matter what else you do, I see zzzzzz floating above the sleeping lion, perhaps as evening dragonflies, LOL!

I totally agree with Mathteacher - that was my first response. Quilt straight lines following the 'grass' to emphasize the texture and shape of grass. I'd quilt around the leaves and up and down the tree trunk (try to put several knot holes in it, too, again for texture). QuiltnNan had a great idea to quilt curls and waves in the mane and tail -- I'd SID for the rest of the lion. Just for fun, maybe quilt "ROAR!", "King of the Jungle" and even "Meow" (to see if anyone notices!!) in the border? Have fun with it - its a really fun quilt! Great job.

My first thought was, as someone else said, to quilt the background densely so the tree and lion will pop. I kind of like the idea of quilting the lines of the foliage in the background.

Also, use poly batting and remember a short stitch length in the background so the texture really pops.

Really cute, too!

Thank you so much for all the fine suggestions. I appreciate the insight of others' experience. It's just like having more knowledge than I actually do. :-)
