Need ideas/suggestions
1 Attachment(s)
This is going to be a Christmas gift for my mom. Her house is done in salmon/purple/brown colors and her favorite color is blue. She loves flowers, she enjoys reading and loves the sun/warmth. She likes things fancy/classy/elegant. She could easily be an interior designer or decorator.
So - what do you all think of this quilt top? (The whole thing is done in batik) Please be honest, brutal even if necessary. I can take it and feedback is what I'm looking for. Does it need anything else? Should I add something to it? Is it off balance? Also - looking for thoughts on how you'd quilt it, keeping in mind that I'm very new at FMQ and I have a machine with a 4.5" throat. Thanks in advance for any and all help, critiques, suggestions, feedback. |
You are so creative. I'm sure your mom will love. Sorry no ideas on quilting.

Ditto. Are you going to quilt it intensively?

I love the blue vase and the flowers so elegant. I would echo the vase and flowers a bit and then maybe swirls to fill in and switch off to different meanders for different sections separating by tiles.

I don't know yet. A couple thoughts were to start with SID just to block off each section, then I was going to trace the applique. My friend suggested a diamond pattern in the blue part at the top. I'm so new to FMQ that I wanted to put out a request to the good people of the QB for ideas. I like Grace creates suggestion. |
I love the simple elegance of it.

I love it - and I know your mom will, too. I'd do SID to define each area and then change the type of quilting. I like the echo quilting idea around the vase and flowers, and the grid for the blue area (blue painters tape, the wide one, is a good way to keep your lines straight and you can re-use it). I wouldn't quilt really densely, but a more open, loopy version. Google for some examples and practice a bit first. I can't tell what size your quilt is. Be sure to do a label for the back, and maybe include a picture of the two of you printed on fabric, attached to the label? That would be a really nice touch, coming from a mom who is probably fairly near to your mothers age....I know I'd love it!

This is beautiful, calla lilies are one of my favorite flowers. Your Mom will be thrilled. I am sorry that I am no help on the quilting

I Love it! The sim[licity makes it striking. I'd quilt a different geometric in each color block, similar to sashiko quilting examples I have seen.
