I am making this OSU quilt for a customer. She wants is King sized, and with the gray outer border (hard to see) it now measures 86W x 98L. Knowing that a standard king bed is 76x80, she will have approximately 18 inches of overhang at the foot of the bed and 5 inches on each side. If I add another border all the way around in order to get more overhang on the sides, then it is way too long. Would it look ok to add another border on just the sides to get the right drop? Or would it just look too tacky? There was no pattern for this, I just used a pic of one already done and played around with it for a bit to get the look I wanted....I don't think the pic was king sized either. Help me!

Yes, just add borders to the sides. I have read about others doing that since I found these quilting boards.

Borders to the sides would be fine!

Honestly, I'd add an extra border but a shorter one on the end and longer on the sides to even out the over hang. It will look great and hang just right.

Great job on those buckeyes!

You can definitely add more on each side...I would use a wider strip of black on the sides and a narrower strip on the bottom and top. It will balance it out nicely. Great job too, by the way.

I agree with barbb.

You did a great job making this without a pattern to follow! The borders added to each side will look good. When the quilt is on the bed with the "O" centered, the difference in width of the end border and the side borders will look natural and balanced. With one central block making up the largest portion of the quilt, there may be no other way to do this; otherwise, you'd have a square quilt. I think I'd add a series of smaller blocks--maybe 6 or 8 inches each like the central block--in a series down each side. The extra touch of pattern and color would be nice. That may take too much time and work, though.

If you decide to add side borders, I'd dress them up a little. Great quilt!!!

You sure can ..................

I would also just add the side borders.

I vote Yes for the additional borders. I have done it several times before.

Great Job...very pretty! Just go ahead and add the borders to the side. It will look good and fit the bed better!

Borders would be nice. You did a great job

GO BUCKS! Yes, I would add borders to the sides. You could use a Red border with the words "OHIO STATE" and another border in grey with a red binding. I am a OSU fan even though I live in SW Florida now. Good luck and please post a pic when done.
