You did it right, it just looks dif from a traditional d9p, cuz you used all dif fabrics. Usually, its 4-4-1, with #1 ending up your cornerstones. (your checkers)

#1 & 2 are both really cute, I like #2 better, diag on the whitish block. :)

Have fun!

I like the first lay-out very much. Please don't toss it in a closet. Finish it and post a picture for us. I think once it is a finished quilt, you will like it.

I have never done a DP9 with a pattern. I like scrappy. Those patterns are great and I like the triangles!!

I like layout number one, also. The idea of a disappearing 9 patch is that it's easy to assemble, but looks more complicated when cut and rearranged. I'm not even sure that there is a wrong way to lay them out. Whatever looks good to you is GREAT!!

Of the full layouts - I like the 2nd one best. It is the white diagonal that draws my eye. BUT... I really like the 3rd picture. So cool to get a windmill effect from squares! Your checked " formerly cornerstones" will lose a bunch in the seams though and don't know if the resulting triangles would be awkward or not. The squares in the fabric pattern would be all different.
You can't go wrong with black, white and red all over no matter how hard you might try. :) Sure to be a beauty once you decide.

I really like the arrangement you have in the first picture shown on here. I like how the black squares meet in this pattern and seem to give the quilt enough anchoring and makes it very appealing to the eyes. I like the last couple of pictures where you folded them in half but I think if you put the whole quilt this way you might loose the pattern and it would appear more of a scrappy type of design.

What if you sashed it in black and put it on point? You do need one more block to set it on point. I felt the same way about this D9P until I sashed it and set it on point even though I was one block short.

I like all the arrangements!

I like either of the original layouts but have to admit the first triangles block really caught my eye.

Your first two lay outs look like the D9P to me. I like the first one the best.
