Need Suggestions, please
 

Need suggestions, please. I found these old hand-sewn quilt blocks in my mom’s stuff. They look like they’re made from men’s clothing fabric. I want to put them in a quilt for my son. I thought of arranging them in rows with and putting a neutral fabric in between each row of blocks. Does anyone know the pattern of these quilt blocks? I also need guidance on how to attach fabric to each point so I can attach the blocks together. I assume I would have to cut a separate piece of fabric and sew a piece to each corner? I put a piece of beige muslin underneath one of the blocks to show you how I want to attach fabric to each corner. Can anyone help? Pictures attached. Thank you!

I don’t know the name of these blocks. But, I would try putting four points together so you get an X. You may have to attach a 1/2 ST to each side of these strips to get a square before setting them together.

triangles sewn on each corner would make them rectangles to connect together. nice ones!!

While the blocks look lovely and are a fabulous find, I will warn you that the person who constructed them probably didn’t realize what size triangle was needed for the outside triangles on each block. She probably started with a block the same size as the ones that would remain square, then cut it in half on the diagonal and attached it. The problem is that a larger triangle is actually needed so that there is a seam allowance around the outside.

I suspect this because my Grandmother’s aunt made a quilt top with the same issue. The pattern was different, however, so the only “setting” triangles on my Aunt’s quilt were around the edge of the quilt top. The top sat for decades, including after I inherited it. I knew if I didn’t remove and replace all those hand pieced triangles, all the points would be cut off when I bound the quilt. I finally decided that quilted and useable was better than perfect points and finished my Aunt Edith’s quilt, almost 60 years after she passed.

Update!
 

Look what I did last night...I used scrap material and recreated the quilt block, then was able to attach corner fabric to both points. Notice the diagonal seam that connects the fabric I used for the corners. I like the way that looks. Thank you so much for your input! Now I'm cookin'!
