Look what my teenage son bought me at a garage sale for $10. Now I just have to figure out how to repair the top of
cabinet and the machine is missing a couple of items.

My DH is a wood guy, and he has taught me a couple of tricks to refurbishing...for the top, you can peel off the broken veneer and get new at Home Depot or one of the other wood places. Then you cut it and glue it on, and then stain it to match.

beachlady 12-11-2009 04:01 PM

Your son is sure a keeper! Good luck with refinishing.

Kudos to your son. He did well. Wonder how old that machine is?

Looks like the old hammered finish. Not rough, but knubby(sp).

littlehud 12-11-2009 09:06 PM

Cool.

Thats just what I was going to say..(Great minds think alike :-D ) I have always loved that cabinet style and the machine is wonderful!

What is the serial number on the machine and I can help you date it. I am thinking somewhere in the mid to late 20's but I wont know for sure until I see the number.

The White catalog list it as a "Crinkle Finish" and they're the first manufacturer to use that finish on a machine.

Looks like only the top of the cabinet needs new veneer.

The rest of it looks like it could be stripped with a
regular stripping product and steel wool. What a beauty!!!
What a thoughtful son you have!

Ooopps I did a typo, I meant "Wrinkle" and not crinkle. While I was typing I was talking to my wife about the different names they called that finish through the years.
