Now all I have to do is finish cutting some stray threads and sew the label on. The poor guy has been waiting for this a while. Though it does have his favorite things pictured on it...basketball, skateboarding and money:>

I used flannel and it was somewhat quick to do in that I have a Accuquilt Studio, so the cutting out was a breeze. I added 6" batting squares between the 8 1/2" blocks. So, it's heavy. This is my second rag quilt in a row and I think I'm ragged out. It can be a bit tricky keeping all the layers together smoothly, matching seams and keeping the frayed ends out of the seams, all at the same time.

Looks Great, I am curious, how did you handle the seams? I am working on one and I stopp at each seam, back up a stitch or two, jump over the seam, back up a stitch or two, then on to the next seam. That keeps the seams from getting sewed down. It is quite laborious and i wonder if there is an easier way.

I don't understand. My seams are all sewn down. I also use a 1" seam allowance with this rag die.

nwm50 10-05-2010 01:39 PM

Thanks Candance for that info. I do have an accuquilt go! and have rec'd the rag die recently but will have to try it out soon ...maybe i'll just make a smaller lap quilt and see how it goes. Thanks again for posting your quilt, sure was nice!

When I make my quilts, I just sew over the seam that joins the squares. I just cut up to the seam when clipping.

I have the money and basketball fabric too, plus some others to make my grandson a rag quilt for Christmas. What size squares did you start with?

It's an 8 1/2" Studio die. Minus an inch seam allowance on each side.

CherokeeGal 11-14-2010 05:57 PM

I'm making one for my 10 yr old Granddaughter, Savanah. It is with flannel, too. The theme for hers is Snowboarding & every color that is shown on the snowboarding flannel, I added squares of those colors. I sewed down all the seams & cut them later on. I want to add the batting & a backing of light blue & white flannel squares. I think, I will cut the squares of batting, instead. When I finish it, I will post it on the Quilting Board.
