Hi everyone! What a great forum! I know I will learn a lot here. I've made a few quilts....nothing too complicated and I still consider myself very much a novice. I like to machine piece and handquilt. Although I am hoping to one day have a new machine and quilt with that as well.
I made the quilt below for my new niece. Precious baby who was not supposed to be as my husband's sister was told she could not have children. Anyway. The charm packs are Moda Odyssea. I saw one like it on Etsy and loved it. I would like to stipple it by hand, but not sure how to start...guess I just 'start'? I don't have a pattern and it is already sandwiched. My other quilts have been either straight lines, simple pattern, or echoed. I would like to do a swirly type pattern. Any opinions?? |
Welcome, waving from central Indiana, USA

Hey there.. first off welcome from Wilson,NC ... and yup you are right just start... stippling should go somewhat fast on that one.. it sure is pretty!
|
Welcome from Louisiana. That's a very pretty quilt. I know you said you would like to stipple, but I think I SID this one and bring out those pretty fabrics. Love the quilt.
|
you could do a swirl into one square going toward the center and swirl yourself right out into the next one. that would make double stitching lines and look nice.
love the quilt!! |
would you do that just free hand? I have those vanishing pens although I have never used them.
|
welcome from South Carolina!! Oh how I love that quilt! I love the fabrics, the white frames.. I cannot give any advice on the quilting part but there are many here that can.
|
I love the bright colors! You can get a stipple stencil, I got one at hobby lobby. I like to mark when I'm hand quilting, and the stencil makes it so easy!
|
OH I didn't know they made such a thing! What do you use for marking? chalk or disappearing ink?

I have a stippling stencil that I've used to quilt a stipple by hand, and I used a disappearing pen for it. I did it one stencil at a time because I'm really slow at hand quilting.
Here's a couple links to a large stippling stencil: http://www.createforless.com/StenSou...pid139108.aspx http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/8776.htm http://www.stensource.com/cat_result...tpage=2&RPP=20 Hope it helps! |
That quilt is just beautiful. I would use a stencil to stipple. That helped me a lot.

Welcome to the board! I really like your quilt, it's pretty.
Probably you are thinking about meandering or meander stippling, it's the pattern often done by machine - but of course you can also do it by hand. As far as I know hand stippling looks like this: |
