That is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I have only dabbled with fusible applique but want to try some more different methods. Thanks for the post. You did a fabulous job.

Krystyna 06-26-2011 02:48 AM

That is gorgeous! Love the little bird.

shirleymcm 06-26-2011 04:41 AM

Stunning!!!

I don't have a favorite method of appliqué because I don't care to do it. I love the look of it because of the detail, but it's too slow for me. Yours is beautiful and I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into each project, whether hand or machine done. But I tell you this, if I saw a pattern, and I really wanted to do it, I would. I just made a few bibs that were machine appliqued-small and finished fast.

Peggyinno 06-26-2011 04:58 AM

That just takes my breath away! Absolutely gorgeous!!
Sounds like a VERY easy way to applique, I may have to try that!
Right now I am hooked on the "back basting" technique.

BeeNana 06-26-2011 05:05 AM

Lovely. I have used most of you methods and mostly use needle turn. I would like to start using blanket stitch and the machine applique.

dottientx 06-26-2011 05:44 AM

HUMMMMMMM! Don't see any of those great Featherweights sitting around in this class!

rosemaynes 06-26-2011 05:48 AM

That is great.... I love the method.

grandjan 06-26-2011 05:51 AM

This is so pretty. Sounds like a great new technique.

pjnesler 06-26-2011 05:57 AM

Yes, changed color to match each piece, then continued with the green for swirls. The vines were stitched four times (out, back, out, then back)

It is beautiful and looks so easy. I also went to the site you had posted. Question- is this washable- such as to use it on a quilt- or will it fray?

freemo 06-26-2011 07:36 AM

Beautiful! Love the colors and pattern, your quilting sets it off perfectly!

I know what you mean. These are tiny applique pieces and I changed to match colors, so I never ran out of bobbin on the applique. The whole piece measures only 16" x 16".

Because the stitches were so close to the raw edges, there is no worry about raveling. I don't know if I would do this method on a full bed-size quilt, but she does have other patterns for larger quilts and they're fantastic!

scrapykate 06-26-2011 07:56 AM

wow, very pretty.

luvspaper 06-26-2011 10:11 AM

I love her stuff...I've been following her blog for a while and would love to take a class if she were ever in my area!

MaryAnnMc 06-26-2011 10:24 AM

I didn't recognize the name, but I definitely recognize the work! You did a lovely job. I'm jealous... I'd love to take one of her classes.

Mary M 06-26-2011 10:29 AM

Very pretty. I have given some thought to using wool felt for applique but I wonder if it can be washed on the quilt. Any experience with washing wool felt?

jigs1354 06-26-2011 10:32 AM

One word GORGEOUS!!!
How did you do that??? pm please if you like to tell me how in 20 words or less,LOL

* freezer paper (wax side up - Kim Diehl's method)
* freezer paper and starch
* spray adhesive
* fusible adhesive
* cereal box templates and starch
* plastic templates and starch
OK, so the list goes on!

And now I've tried "free-motion" applique' on the sweetest little pillow topper. At a retreat given by Kellie Wulfsohn from Australia, we used raw edge applique' pieces with fusible adhesive, added a couple of layers of wool batting, grabbed a pair of new garden gloves to get a good grip, dropped the feed dogs, then straight stitched around each piece two to three times. Once the pieces are on, quilt in a few swirls. I gave the freemotion quilting a good try, then I brought it home and used my longarm... I know, I cheated! But I did learn another fun way to applique!

A unique designer, we're bound to see more of Kellie's "Don't Look Now" designs... patterns... classes... and even a line of fabrics for Riley Blake Designs coming next Spring. I first found her on this Board, with one of her quilts in a picture of "Doll Quilts" in the header. Here's her website: http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/dont_...-fabric-1.html

What's your favorite method of applique?

I have just started blanket stitching on my first 'raw edge and blanket stitch' applique. Lessons learned so far- #1 Do not use heavy duty heat and bond to do this! (Stitching through it involves using needle nosed pliers to get through it!) #2 There is a good reason to trim most of the center adhesive away before applying to the fashion fabric! (Good thing this is a wall hanging, way to stiff to be cuddly!) #3 If you do make these mistakes, use a thimble to defend your fingers!

*For the record, I will try this again, but do it right next time. I can be such a dufus!

sewmanyideas 06-26-2011 05:43 PM

Simply adorable with those cute little flowers and the bird. I will send you my address-lol;)

I absolutely love Kellie's patterns. They are so bright and cheerful.
I would be so excited to have the chance to attend one of her workshops. Glad to hear she is having a fabric line come out. She has not blogged for awhile and I was concerned something had happened. Sounds like only good things for her. Thanks for sharing
