I have this just laid out. I've changed it and changed it. I think I have it, but any suggestions before it's to late. I invite any ideas, if anyone thinks one block would look better someplace else????? Speak now or forever zip your lips......

looks great, but if I changed anything, imho, I would take the upper right center row star and switch it, and same with the lower right center star...it'll be sort of mirror for the left side...make sense?

just switch the light and dark on the top and bottom stars? Sorry I'm confused...doesn't take much

How about these changes?

Ducky 07-11-2009 04:46 PM

I'm not sure what you mean, esqmommy.

Well, anyway, I'm not sure what you would want to change - it looks random and really nice. I love those stars...aren't they great?

tarib 07-11-2009 04:55 PM

Thanks Ducky. I hope esqmommy can get it through my head what she meant, because I do encourage outside ideas. (the 2nd pic is different) I found this pattern from "Quick & Easy Quilting Magazine" June 2002.(online a free pattern) It's a Nine-Patch & Four-Patch Stars - It is supposed to be very random colors, very country with various blues, tans and reds. The border is supposed to be pieced reds, then blues, with more stars around the border. First though I want to make sure I have it set up the way I want before I start sewing. Maybe I will wait until next weekend before doing anything definate.

pawquilts 07-11-2009 04:59 PM

Don't change a thing. It looks great! :) :) :)

SaraSewing 07-11-2009 05:43 PM

I love a random look. It's very attractive. ARe those wonky stars?

tarib 07-11-2009 05:54 PM

I don't know if they are wonky stars or not. They pattern just came with the instructions. :)

Tarib---I liked the more random placement of the stars in your first picture than in the second one. I think your layout is wonderful and I cannot wait to see it with borders on it too.

That's ok...when I get back to the states, I can use my "stealthness" and get it from you. I'm sure that little cutie of yours wouldn't tell on Auntie Terri. I'll just bring him presents to keep him quiet. lol

kluedesigns 07-11-2009 07:38 PM

ok, i could go either way on the stars that you switched around.

the only thing i would add is do you have 1 more square of the neutral fabric with the brown pattern on it?

you have 1 of these squares in 3 of the 4 quads - i know its silly but i'm kinda OCD about those things. its really no big deal, the quilt looks lovely and 1 square does not make a difference in such a beautiful quilt.

sewnsewer2 07-11-2009 07:44 PM

I think it looks great!!

SulaBug 07-11-2009 10:40 PM

However you choose to put these
blocks together, is going to look
just great!! :D Please your eye,
as you put it together!!
:D :D :D :D :D

I have looked at this so much, even when I make changes it still looks the same. I'm still going to let it set for a week before I sew. I figure it is a blanket not a wall hanging so I doubt it will be scrutinized that much on my couch. PLus most of my friends know nothing about quilting and are fascinated by whatever I do  I will just be happy if all of the seams match up

Thanks to all for your thoughts and kind words

barnbum 07-12-2009 04:25 AM

I love it! The first and second photos both look great to me. I've squinted at it and everything.

Chele 07-12-2009 04:28 AM

I love the scrappiness and especially the stars. It's going to be a great quilt. Make more!

Bevanger 07-12-2009 05:12 AM

I wouldn't change anything. I thinks it looks great as it is now. GREAT JOB!

tarib 07-12-2009 05:33 AM

thanks again everyone. I'm really anxious to get it all together and will post a completed pic.

Can't sew today anyway the sun is out....better take advantage of it while I can. :D

Esqmommy 07-12-2009 07:21 AM

Sorry, didn't mean to be confusing. I was just thinking the center row should have the stars next to the center block instead of on the outside of the quilt...does that make sense?

sewjoyce 07-12-2009 07:25 AM

I think it looks great...

bearisgray 07-12-2009 09:03 AM

I see what Klue means - I guess I have a bit of OCD too

i would have all four of the large white (lighter) stars either close to the center or close to the outside of the quilt - then it seems to have a more rotating effect to me

but this is all personal preferemce

Looks nice as is, though

bearisgray 07-12-2009 09:07 AM

also try having all the red medium sized squares go in the same diagonal

also, take pictures of the various layouts (if you haven't already done so) and then you can compare - sometimes it's a lot easier to spot something on a photo

I was trying to go by the picture in the directions. Unfortunately the real life picture of the quilt is draped over a chair. I'm attaching pics of the directions and real life pic. Hope you see these ok.

SaraSewing 07-12-2009 01:09 PM

Thanx for including the pattern. It's sure a pretty quilt.

dvseals 07-12-2009 05:30 PM

Very pretty and I'm sure whichever way you decide to sew it together will look awesome :)

Quilt4u 07-13-2009 02:17 AM

Looking Great.

littlehud 07-13-2009 08:51 AM

My lips are zipped. I love it the way it is.

amma 07-13-2009 08:59 AM

I love it!!! Perfect fabric choices, can't wait to see it all together!!! :D :D :D

tarib 07-13-2009 11:32 AM

oh forgot I want to do a blanket stitch around the stars, so that needs to be done before I put it together.

tarib 07-27-2009 03:53 PM

I have it all put together, just need to do the border and backing. On vacation, leaving tomorrow to camp, so when I get back, I guess I need to get busy again. Then I am going to start a lap quilt for my mom for Christmas, yes Christmas.

littlehud 07-27-2009 06:21 PM

I like it just the way it is. The colors are great and the pattern is wonderful.
