Would your husband share the plan on how he made the thread holder. Could you post a close up of it. Would you mind if I tried to get my husband to make something similar. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful room, good for you and enjoy sewing in such a great room.

Mine use to look like that. I envy you for having a fresh start. I am thinking of emptying everything out of mine and starting over. Now that would be a job but at least it would be satisfying.
You are very organized, Love it. Thanks for sharing. |
OH, for a place to put all my stuff! :(
Yours looks wonderful & well-planned  |

Sunshine and lots of storage! Yay! :)

And, like everyone else, I really like your threads holder that your husband made. My husband is very handy with woodworking. I plan to show him your photo in hopes that he can come up with his own version for me. Please tell your husband that he has done a wonderful job. I like the visual of color and yet his idea has made storing your threads very compact while visible. |
Lovely room. Ashlett! Hoping to have a room to sew in one day. It is my dream.

Wonderful room that you have to quilt in,Enjoy it very much.

The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (digital). When you click on new topic or reply, you will see some browse buttons beneath the text window. Click on one of them. This will open up your computers system showing a number of options, and the result would depend on what operating system you are using. Find 'my pictures' and click on it. This should open your picure folders. Click on the folder you want, and then the pictures in that folder open. Select the picture you want, and it its file name will appear in the little box next to the browse button. You can do up to three pictures by pressing each button and selecting a picture this way. When your happy, press send. Sounds more complicated than it is in practise - good luck

Hubby here - I will take some close-ups for you, and give you some measurements. Have to go out today for a while, so bear with me and I will put details up for you later. :)

As promised, here is the spec for the thread holder.
Top and bottom bars are in softwood, and measure 34 inches. Uprights are in hardwood and measure 24 inches Thread spindles are in hardwood, each measuring 4 inches in length, and are 1/4 inch in diameter. The uprights are spaced at 5 3/4 inch intervals. The thread spindles are spaced 1 1/2 inches from each other. When drilling holes in the uprights for the spindles, they should be a snug fit, allowing you to lightly tap them part way through. Just before reaching half way point, wrap a small amount of wood glue around the centre point of each spindle next to the upright before tapping it into the half way through position. This will allow sufficient glue to be taken into the upright, and when dry, will secure each spindle. A couple of discreet brackets on the top cross bar will secure it to the wall. I have put some close-ups of the frame to help all you guys out there. Have also put a little teaser on in picture form of a Sunbonnet Sue portable thread holder I did for Carole some time ago. (Just in case your husband/partners need something else to do after they have made you the thread holder!). Good Luck. Mike |
thank you, we need to get those husbands busy. Great room and I am green with envy.
thank you for sharing and enjoy every minute of it. |
Thank you Mike for the instructions. And yes, that cute little sunbonnet sue is a teaser. A million ideas come to mind.
Carole and Mike, you two are great. Thank you again and again for posting your studio and the directions for the much loved and appreciated threads holder.    |

Beautiful sewing room.
|
What a beautiful sewing room. It is so nicely organized. I love everything, including your storage boxes, shelving and that thread holder is great.
|
Beautiful! Question: What kind of lighting are you using?
|
Love the sewing room, what a great place to work. You've shamed me into cleaning up my space.

I have an Ikea centre light which uses two energy efficient strip bulbs. Together they deliver 200 watts of light. I also have my table top light and Ipod player, which has a 25 watt bulb. My husband's PC area has a mini swivel spotlight, which also has a 20 watt bulb. Hope that helps.

thanks for sharing. I'm trying to prepare my craft/quilting room with the correct lighting, but it's kind of tricky.
