a new scrappy with a different take on an older pattern
1 Attachment(s)
Almost 2 years ago a gal on the QB posted a pix of her "Tiddlywinks" quilt, a free pattern from Roxanne Carter, I think the name was. I made a bunch of them for charity and forgot about this great pattern. Last week I was watching a MSQC video, and she was making a quilt that I realized it was Tiddlywinks turned a different way, and I made the one shown here. The one on the video showed a white background, where I used a purple with white dots (which don't seem to show up, it isn't a solid fabric) but I don't like using a lot of white on a child's quilt. (they get too dirty too quickly even tho' they are so pretty) But then the purple seemed overwhelming, so I dove into the bag of 2-1/2" squares and added corners to the purple. It's actually a deeper not so bright purple. I like the way this turned out.
In case you don't remember Tiddlywinks, this is the link to that posting I made. Sorry I can't give credit to the original poster, I didn't take down her name. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t254624.html |
How fun judy! It seems to be a planned scrappy, my favorite. Like so many others, I just can't completely give up controlling the pattern somehow. This really elevates the first design you were making and yet not too hard to set.

Very pretty and I love the purple background.

This is a lovely quilt. I like it better than the original version.

Adorable quilt, I like colored back grounds for kids also.

Judy, what a fun scrappy quilt project. Thank you for sharing your photo and reminding us about the pattern. I like the purple fabric you chose.
How fun! I really like this and the ones in your link. You're so talented. :D
A great design!
I really like this pattern and the purple too.

I am currently working on this quilt from MSQ with my beloved Kaffe Fassett prints with. Yellow background. I wish I had seen your quilt with your added corner pieces before I sewed my squares together. Great second block pattern emerges with your additional corners.
Very pretty and cheerful.
Nice! Judy, another great scrappy. I really like the layout and how the "stars" are formed.
I have made the Tiddlywinks pattern but I really like your layout.
Nice quilt.
That purple is perfect with the rest of the fabrics. Nice work!
Nice job, love the extra corner you added.
Great quilt, I really like your variation and your colors.
Really cute....
Great job, Judy! I remember seeing that tutorial and thinking, "Isn't that Tiddlywinks?" :)
Love this! And thanks for the reminder that backgrounds don't have to be white or off-while. I wish I would remember that when I'm planning my next quilt!
I like it. And, I agree about the amount of white on a child's quilt. Just leads to more needed laundry and shortens the life of the quilt.
