New start into 2016

Well, this a been a slow start this year but the project "book" is full for the months to come :)
Up to now I've only made a couple of boxes for friends for presents.
Then I've finally finished a lap quilt that was laying dormant and half finished in my cupboard..... The pinwheel blocks were part of a huge bag full of different blocks in size, shapes and colors that was given to me about 5 years ago. Some blocks I had already used for other projects and now I'm slowly getting on the bottom of this
I had to add the flying geese at the back as the fabric I wanted to use just wasn't wide enough ;)
Thanks for looking!!!
Blessings <3

I really like your boxes! You did a nice job on them. And I always admire a pieced backing.

I love the rick rack on your quilt, at the top and bottom. I must do that one day.

Because of the way I had to lay out the squares, the quilt turned out wider than longer and so I added a larger border to even it out. Then those 2 borders looked so very plain so adding the rick rack just gives it some "umpf".... :)

Looks like you are off to a great start for 2016. I really like the baby pinwheel quilt and the fabric boxes need to be added to my Roundtoit List. Nice work.

Love your projects. I made one of the boxes a long time ago. Is there any kind of tutorial or chart that lets you know how big of a square or rectangle as well as how much to trim to make different size and depth boxes? I would like to make some for Christmas presents to hold Christmas cards received. Thanks,

Sandra, if you have some spare time just try a few different sizes, you can always use them as presents. My rule is I cut the squares 12 1/2" and the sides either 2" or 2 1/2" - the 2" gives you a box with lover borders and a little wider where with the 2 1/2" the borders are higher and the box is smaller. I was given one to me which was made with a 15 1/2" and I think she said she cut it at 2 1/2" and it turned out quite large.
Good luck!!! :)

you would never know that you put the flying geese there because you had to. looks like you designed it that way
