Hi Folks,
I wanted to get back to quilting. The renos are starting to slow down and I was restless.

So I did a table topper for my big oak coffee table, to match the new loveseat. I tried a wavy border and bias quilt binding because I have a quilt I want to finish that way and I thought I'd practice on something smaller just in case it was a skill that couldn't be a part of my repertoire!

It is good to be back at the machine playing with my fabrics!

Welcome back to quilting! Good to hear your renos are behind you. You did great on the red table topper. Will have to try scalped edges and bias binding. You make it look very easy. thanks for sharing.

Very pretty--I love the colors, too.

(I sneak in a table runner or two between "big" projects, too
It is fun to see something start and actually get finished quickly--
very satisfying for me. )

Oh how charming your table topper is. The red is just wonderful and it matches very nice to your loveseat. Good job! I emjoyed seeing you bias curvy edges done in the check. It set it off perfectly and you did a great job on it.

Very pretty!! I love the colors and patterns you used. Nice contrast! I used to use plaids but they take a fussy approach I don't want to take time for anymore. I have to have all lines straight or I don't like the result.

I love how yours turned out! Can't wait to see the quilt!
I'm not brave enough to do a wavy border but I have thought about it.

I feel the same way, but love the look of gingham and plaids so when I want to use them I do a bias cut and then the fussy cutting isn't so important.

You are brave making scalloped borders, did you say you need a special ruler to get that effect.

I cut a strip of wallpaper border (I keep things like that because I am a pack rat), the same length as the topper. Folded paper in half and made my first scallop ( with pencil) Folded again and made another scallop. (crest of the wave is at the fold).

There's probably some nifty little tool for making scallops but I like doing things the hard way!

Harmony 03-23-2009 11:55 AM

I saw the pattern for that somewhere on this board and printed it for "later." After seeing yours all made up, I may move it from the "later" pile to the "next" pile! Yours is just beautiful!

quiltnut4ever 03-23-2009 01:21 PM

bEAUTIFUL, LOVE THOSE COLORS!
