I don't have one but it is so pretty. Congrats on your new toy.
Awesome!!!!! I have the Quilter's Edition and I love it.
Mine is about 10 years old. Have fun!!!!!!!! |
Finch, I am so green...Love your machine. Have fun learning all the in's and out's. I always read my manuals and then read them again to learn. (HUGS))))))

Looks great! What is so special about this machine compared to other Berninas?
Thanks Janet |
New Toy! Have fun & share projects with us from using this! :D

I bought myself a Bernina 220 when they had a great sale on them last year. It cost me $1000 less than the 1260 I have had since the early 1990s and actually has more built in stitches. I ended up having to spend almost $400 more to have the knee lift installed and to purchase the better foot control but it was worth it. I don't think I could sew with out those features. The biggest differnce is in the weight of the machine. My older machine weighs at least 28 lbs. The newer one is at least 10lbs lighter. The lighter weight is achieved by using lighter weight materials in the construction. It also makes it vibrate more. My old machine has had the computer replaced but I still love it and use it almost daily. I use the newer one to take on retreat etc. Now I have an excuse to start purchasing new feet again. The ones from my older machine will not fit the newer one.

I have no idea what is so special about this machine compared to others. This is the first one that I have ever had. It was a special anniversary edition.Maybe that makes it different. I am used to featherweights.
Thank you for the useful information.

Does it have the stitch regulator? I have never used a Bernina but I love my Janome!!
A good friend of mine talked me into getting this because they had only one left and she got one too.I got it for about $500.00 less than the original price. It has a free standing accessorie case that attaches to the machine. It has 204 stitches including 10 alphabets The activa 240 has 256 stitches including 10 alphabets. It cost a whole lot more. I bought the floor model,so I got a great deal.I can later get the knee operated bar that raises and lowers the feed dog so you can keep your hands on your fabric when guiding and pivoting. It was extra. I hope that I will enjoy it because they say they are really the top of the line machines. No plastic parts, all metal. That is all I have learned about the Bernina so far. Everyone says that it will be the last machine that I will ever need. I know one thing for sure..My husband hopes so.
Enjoy your new toy!
Yes it does.I also have a Janome and I love it too. That is why I was wondering if I made a good choice or not with the Bernina. This Bernina is computerized and my Janome isn't.I have a lot to learn with the Bernina.I am not used to the computerized version of a machine yet.It is like a new car to me.Where do I start?? But I will learn as I go along. It has a memory that remembers the changes that you make to each stitch while you are sewing. It has an automatic needle up/down feature and an automatic needle threader that I struggle with.I just have to learn when to let go of the thread.

I had the Bernina Activa 140, used it for years and then upgraded to the 440. It was a good machine, liked it a lot and did a lot of quilting on it. I have a plexiglass extension table that does not fit my new machine, I wonder if it would fit yours?
No.It does not have a stitch regulator.I couldn't afford that.
Congratulations on your new toy! It is pretty & I think you will really enjoy it. I have the Activa 140 and the 240. Love them both! I actually got a steal of a deal on a 2nd 140 on Ebay, so I put those 2 up for my DGD's. I do love the 240. On the outside it looks like yours except yours has the Patchwork edition on it. I am happy for you.

Its beautiful!!!!!

I just got a Janome 3160 QDC and so far I am trying to sew without the pressure foot. Wow that is a hard thing to get used to..already I got excited about stopping the machine and I now have an icon that says I have a thread jam. I have looked at all possibilities and that darn icon is still there. I hesitate continue to sew with the icon showing...will have to call shop for help. But it is the way to go...no more fighting with the foot pedal!!

Oh my...silly me ..I did not try without the pressure foot!! I meant to say the foot control...haha
Thank you all so much. The patchwork edition is suppose to be a quilting machine sotime will tell what it will do.I just have to play around with it a bit.It makes me feel better knowing that everyone likes the Bernina and the featherweights and the Janomes. I love them all. But so far,my featherweight is my favorite and If I had to give them all up,my featherweight would be the last to go.
I bought the same machine 6 month's ago and it was the best purchase that I've made so far. Absolutly love love love it.
Enjoy your new toy!! She's definitely a Beauty!!
I love my Bernina QE440. The only complaint I have is the needle threader. It's quicker for me to do it myself. Other than that it's an awesome machine. I learned as I went. It sews like a dream and the stitch regulator is the cats meow. You will have tons of fun and congratulations on your new toy.
When did Bernina start making the knee lift an optional (and extra cost) feature? Is it extra on all Bernina machines?
I have a 1260 that I bought many years ago and I love it more every day. I have quite a few stitches but only use 1 or 2 since pretty much all I do is piece on it. But it is a workhorse - always ready to sew perfectly no matter what I am sewing or how long it have been neglected. One of my favorite features is the knee lift. I can't sew on a machine without it anymore. I just habitually try to lift the presser foot with my knee. |
Congratulations! Berninas are wonderful and reliable machines. I still use my Bernina 830 Record that has been mine for 40 years without a single problem. Now I use my Bernina 440QE, and it has been great. Enjoy your new toy.
Funny you say that about the needle threader, I can't be bothered with mine either, it is faster to thread it myself.
I have a Bernina 730..and have loved it since it came to stay at our house. They are sturdy and reliable. Congratulations on your new toy.
