I have quilted 4 quilts so far, 3 charity quilts and one for a friend who was kind enough to let me practice on her quilt. The pictures are of her quilt. I did this over a month ago and was very pleased to see that Charisma quilted a Dresden Plate in a similar fashion on a later post. I was really quite worried if I had done it correctly. My friend loved it so that is what is important. There are mistakes but I learned that they seem to disappear after it's finished and washed.I chose to do pebbles in the centers, outline the applique',stipple around the plates to make them pop and had some fun with some feather motifs I made up myself. My friend chose high loft batting and it was a real challenge for my 3rd quilt but really shows the plates off. I think she pieced a beautiful quilt.

Hey, you should be proud....just your third quilt? This is very good, you have great potential. If you keep this up we'll be fighting for the same customers. :)

Thank you, I hope to be able to do this professionally but I think there's enough quilts to go around.

I have a Voyager 17 with a Hinterberg stretch frame. Thank you all for the wonderful comments.

You did a beautiful job.... I am also a longarm newbie - and it can be pretty intinidating - all that power and speed. I think you have learned a lot for being relatively new to the sport. Congratulations and happy quilting.

Sue

Your quilting is fantastic! I would never call your quilting "newbie" quilting. You did a wonderful job.

Mariposa 05-20-2011 06:47 AM

Beautiful quilting on a pretty quilt! Love your feathers too!

coastienest 05-20-2011 07:04 AM

It looks great. You can be very proud of your quilting and your friend.

mytwopals 05-20-2011 07:21 AM

Nice job. The victorian feathers are especially nice for only your 3rd quilt. The only thing I might have done different is to SID each blade in the Dresden plates, which is just a personal preference.

Selena 05-20-2011 07:41 AM

I planned to do just that but loved the way they poofed up after outlining them and also discovered that I'm not so good @ SID yet.

I like that comment--"new to the sport"!! Great work--this gives me hope for the day I get a long arm. Did you do a lot of FMQ before your long arm?? If this is the work you produce after just a few--just imagine what things will look like down the road!!

labug 05-20-2011 07:48 AM

Great work!

Selena 05-20-2011 08:00 AM

I am completely new to quilting period. I have helped cut and piece some charity quilts for my homemakers club but they were tied before I got my longarm. I've just wanted to quilt for years and have all these ideas and plans that I've carried around in my head. I am presently working on piecing my actual first quilt. It's a thank you to my husband for encouraging me to almost clean out our savings to buy the longarm. The problem is, I can dream up designs a lot faster than I can do them. I have a book of graph paper almost full of quilts. Now just to get going on them. Thank you for all your encouragement. It means a lot to me.My husband thinks that because I am really good @ sewing that the longarm should be a breeze but we all know that's not true.

Selena 05-20-2011 07:35 PM

Thanks to everyone for your kind remarks. You made my day. It gave me the encouragement I needed. I even organized my sewing/quilting room today.
