I know that many of you are probably well seasoned in the field of quilting, but I have just started. I have taken no lessons, only read books and tried to re-create things I've seen (in my own style).
So..without further delay...here are my first two finished projects.
The deer set is ready to give to my son for his wedding gift.
I quilted in the black lines of the 4 placemats and did a straight line quilt on all the other items: double oven mitt, fingertip oven mit, 2 pot holders (one not shown).
The cola bag is for a quick carrying around of my laptop. I took several ideas and popped them into one case. Not bad for a beginner (in my humble opinion). This was the VERY FIRST quilting project I ever did.

Why aren't my pictures showing...I used the Attach Files, they are .jpg and they are less than 300K

Tracy, those look great! I love the laptop case. Sure could use one of those!

And Welcome from Houston.

patricej 06-02-2009 04:26 PM

oh yes! you definitely have a bright future in quilting!!!!

Tracy_Lit5 06-02-2009 04:26 PM

The laptop bag WAS my very first quilting project, yes.
Then my husband suggested placemats for our sons wedding.
I tried a few samplers (pot holder) and found it to be easy...So i created a template for the size mats I wanted and kept on going from there

nana2 06-02-2009 05:14 PM

These are just great and since you indicate that the placemats and the matching pot holders and oven mits are for you son's wedding, does this mean the kids are growing up and now you might have time for some quilting projects???

omak 06-02-2009 08:38 PM

You did a GREAT job. Congratulations!
Seasoned or not, it is always very exciting to see someone step on out and try to do something they are not sure they can do.
You must be very pleased with your fine projects, the techniques you learned to use, and actually completing your first works.
Now ... the fun really begins. What are you going to do with the leftovers from your projects (or, as we in the quilting world speak of them - - your scraps!) <g>

Quilt4u 06-03-2009 03:50 AM

Tracy_Lit5 06-06-2009 09:18 AM

Yes, I really AM a newbie. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement.
I am saving all my scraps for future things. Not because of what I MIGHT make, but I started saving them because I guess I grew up with "why throw it away when it can be used for something else".
I'm getting ready to post my 2 and 3 projects: First was the deer, second was fish and third are dolphins. Check out the new post shortly.

Thanks again everyone. You're great!

Marcia 06-06-2009 06:46 PM
