Top is a picture of my second attempt to piece this flower! I had to unpick several times! The first one I attempted was dumped in in the trash! Note how beautifully square it is and the petals come to a nice "V" at the top. If I join it to anything else ALL the points will disappear into the seam allowance! ROTFL!

The second one is an untrimmed or blocked block from today. Hopefully a whole lot better!

So newbies, keep on trying, read a lot, look at lots of pictures and enjoy all the help and advice given here.

Anyone else have pictures of "firsts"?

And thanks always to my best friend who got me into quilting then said virtually, "That just not going to do it. Any other hobbies you like?"

I'm impressed with that untrimmed block. And, yes, I made just about every mistake known in some of my first blocks. Truth be told, I'm still making mistakes but I hope not as many. LOL

I love the block from today. I still go back to the first quilts I made and compare. It helps me realize I am getting better. (I still have a long way to go) I looked at my third quilt that was all stars. My points were really pretty good. I only lost a few. I am amazed because I sure didn't know what I was doing. Just lucky on that one.

Our Mom's were right, all it takes is a LOT of practice! I love the pink.

Keep it up...you are getting so good!!! Great looking block!

Kitsie 07-05-2010 09:14 PM

Thanks! Just 2 more blocks to go and then all the sashing and corner stars, etc.

SharonAnne 07-05-2010 09:17 PM

Perseverance pays off. Beautiful block from "today". My grandmother always said, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." That is my mantra and I can see you are living proof that it works.
