I call this "No Passport Required." It is a Trip Around the World pattern on point and is made with fabrics representing places all over the globe. It is a big one--112" x 122"--quilted on my DSM. The squares in this quilt finished at 2.5".

It was a gift for my daughter who can now travel around the world without even leaving her bed. :)

Wow, that's a special 'trip'!... a very nice idea.

grannie cheechee 09-29-2019 09:16 AM

Beautiful quilt, and to find out you quilted it on your DSM.

nativetexan 09-29-2019 09:27 AM

is there a free pattern for that anywhere? I love the way yours go around.

I used Square Dance by Sandra Boyce of Everyday Quilts for counts to cut squares of so many different fabrics, but it is a traditional Trip Around the World (except that I set it on-point), so there should be instructions out there.

I have since learned that this layout is also called Boston Commons. I wish I'd known that when I was trying to figure it out!

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words.

Great quilt!

Moira in N.E. England 09-30-2019 12:11 AM

Wow - that’s wonderful!
How did you manage to quilt something so big on a DSM? I struggle with anything over 40 inches.

Annaquilts 09-30-2019 01:47 AM

The quilt is stunning! I also love the around the world fabric theme. Beautiful! You did an amazing job.

pattipat 09-30-2019 04:09 AM

Beautiful quilt! Great choice of fabrics... Bravo for working with the ‘on point’ setting. I would have lost my mind!

Pam S 09-30-2019 05:14 AM

Wow. I'm impressed by the sheer number of tiny squares and the fact that you quilted that king-size quilt on your DSM.

Quiltlady330 09-30-2019 05:24 AM

Beautiful quilt! Stunning! But how did you baste it so that you could get it under the needle on a Domestic Sewing Machine?

Jordan 10-01-2019 08:28 AM

Beautiful quilt. Love how you have squares that represent all parts of the world. Great workmanship and your daughter is very lucky to receive this gift.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

I was thinking that Elmer's glue would be the only thing that would hold that in place. Yes, I'm an Elmer's girl, too. But when I do that on a large quilt, I usually put a few safety pins here and there, especially at the edges, so that the tugging at the quilt will not release the hold of the glue.

A beautiful quilt. Well done.
