I just took my first class on FMQ on the sewing machine, and was surprised how difficult it really is. I won't quit, either, but it's going to take a good bit of time to do it to my satisfactionl.

I'm right there with you... just learning to FMQ... it's a love - hate relationship. I love being creative but hate that I'm a perfectionist and just HOPE I'll get a little better with practice. Hang in there!

As a new FMQ'er, I was carefully doing meandering by starting in the center of my quilt and intending to do one quarter at a time. Sometime during the process it must have clicked for me because before I knew it, I'd done the entire quilt without stopping once. Your potholder looks just fine! Do another project and it will click for you too.

Well I think it is good for your first try, I thought I would never get the hang of it but after a few quilts I have certainly inproved and so will you...

Jan, this is an excellent suggestion. Thank you!

i've started fmq on my dgd's 1st quilt. i have put it off, and put it off. i got going, and i won't win any prizes, but it is really fun! i was truly surprised! i turned on my today's country music channel and ran the machine faster than i moved the quilt and it just seemed to work! it was a lot easier than the stid quilt i just finished for my son. it's so much faster and so much more fun. i wrote my dgd's name in several places on the quilt. i plan to add other messages as i finish it up. it will be years before she finds them and can read them but it will be a reminder of how much, and how long her grammi has loved her. <3

My motto is " Progress Not Perfection". Is it allowed to draw on the fabric and follow a meandering line not exactly? Might give some security. Your pot holder is cheery.
