I got this mat to go under the sewing machine to keep it form slipping, at our quilt retreat last year. It is great to take to classes. So decided to make 1 for my SIL and DIL for Christmas. They are both into quilting and classed

Is there a pattern for something like this? This is really neat!!! :) Fabulous!

sueisallaboutquilts 12-10-2010 02:31 PM

Very nice! :)

Debbie B 12-10-2010 02:36 PM

I really like this & also like the pin cushion/bag, too. Would love to have the pattern for both.

lisainmo 12-10-2010 02:39 PM

That is really nice...I would love to have one of those.

Nice set up, I like the idea of those pockets right in front of you when you are sewing. Maybe I could keep track of my scissors that way....

emc1118 12-10-2010 02:58 PM

I think I found an after Christmas weekend project. They will love them!

fabricesta 12-10-2010 03:21 PM

Didn't have a pattern but if you will send me your email I'll send you some instructions.

KathyAire 12-10-2010 03:47 PM

bearisgray 12-10-2010 03:49 PM

How do you keep it from sliding off the table?

fabricesta 12-10-2010 03:51 PM

I got a roll of Grip Liner from Rite Aide and sewed a square of it on the back

Hi Fabricesta,

Can I ask what a grip liner is.... I have never heard of anything like that here in the UK!

Hugs

fabricesta 12-10-2010 04:02 PM

I got the pin cushion and bag pattern of the internet by just typing in scrap bag with pin cushion

gramabiese 12-10-2010 04:15 PM

I bought the shelf liner roll at the dollar store, works the same and is so inexpensive, it feels kind of rubbery, but nothing slides.

fabricesta 12-10-2010 04:25 PM

I would have also but we have no dollar store here

beachlady 12-10-2010 04:35 PM

Great idea and love your fabrics.

Cyn 12-10-2010 05:56 PM

Love this idea and will put it on my to do list.

fabricesta 12-10-2010 07:30 PM

There is a tutorial for the pin cushion and scarp bag at
www.kquilts-studio.com/pincushionthread-catch-tutori.htm
My brother works at a lumber supply store and I got some of the plastic strapping tape (used) that comes on packages from him to stiffen the top of my bag.

Caroline, it would be shelf liner, maybe where they sell contact paper,
or in a hardware store, guys use it for thier tool chests,it would be black rubber.usually in a small roll.

some of it has a "waffle weave"

what it looks like

It is similar to the bed pocket from the One Yard Wonder book. I am making the for my grandsons. It fits under the bed mattress to put in little items like glasses. comic books, tv remote, etc. They whip up so quick.
