Nobody Is Perfect

2 Attachment(s)
Not when I was piecing the top from blocks.
Not when I was pinning it.
Not when I was quilting and neither when binding.
And not when I was finally cleaning cat hair off it and packing the quilt for shipping.

I noticed it when I was looking at photos after shipping the quilt.

Now you can notice it, too.

Was it the Amish who make a deliberate mistake in every quilt to remind themselves that only God is perfect? They may be, because their quilts are otherwise perfect. My mistake was not deliberate, but still was I reminded - nobody is perfect. And neither is my quilt.

I like the backing of it very much, though.

Very pretty quilt! We've all made mistakes, just don't point them out to the recipient and they won't know it was a mistake.

no. that's a myth.
they are either amused or confused that anybody would believe they'd do such a thing.

Mistakes just add mystery and character to a quilt. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hug.gif Was it a mistake or just part of the plan? No one will ever know!

Homespun 12-17-2020 04:17 AM

It looks good. don't say anything!

Vasilisa 12-17-2020 04:25 AM

This is one of the quilts I intend for a certain charity. They will be given to them in the fall of 2021 (now I have only shipped them to the temporary storage location). Since it is going to be a bundle, I will not comment on every one of them separately anyway.

I find if I photo the quilt up on my design wall before I start putting the blocks together I'll see some of my mistakes before they happen. Funny how just looking at it you don't see it. Been there, done that.

Battle Axe 12-17-2020 05:44 AM

I have done the very same thing. I stared and stared at that top that was hanging in plain sight on the design board. I just had an uneasy feeling about it, but I could not see it until I looked at the picture of it on my phone. And I was sitting with it on my lap waiting to enter it in an auction. Horrors!! So I ran back home and picked out another to go in the auction.

Oh yes, photos show us things our eyes cannot see. Odd but true. Lovely quilt just as it is.

SusieQOH 12-17-2020 06:31 AM

I don't see anything wrong with it and neither will the recipient. I don't think I've ever made the perfect quilt.
One day I was showing my sister a mistake in one (she's not a quilter) and she couldn't find it. I think we think other people see things the way we do when in reality they don't. We have "trained eyes" so to speak.
If I had to reach perfection I don't think I'd be doing this :)

BTW- lovely quilt!

LOL, I just did same thing. Making Wreath quilt for DIL and finished sewing top together, hung up to get a couple of pictures and to take closeups of the blocks to plan quilting. When I transferred pics to my computer I noticed the ribbon bow block didn't look right. I decided to take that section apart and redo as it simply required turning a couple of pieces around. Picked apart grabbed the quilt and went to sewing machine, fixed the block and then ready to sew cream/white piece back in. I couldn't find it, it was missing, tore threw house looking for it and it is nowhere. Fortunately I had extra pieces and was able to fill the missing piece, still have no idea where the original piece is, the move from living room to sewing room is down hallway of maybe 20 yards and don't even ask how many times I and DH have looked in garbage. I am accusing the cats of stealing it to make me go crazy. Pic 1 is quilt top, pic 2 is wrong block, pic 3 is corrected block.

I did the same thing recently but I caught it before it was quilted. Of course, it was in the middle of the quilt and a little harder to take apart to fix.

Great quilt and it will be loved and keep someone cozy!

EmiliasNana 12-17-2020 08:03 AM

We all make mistakes and only some of us find them LOL I think your donation quilt is lovely and will provide comfort to someone who views it as perfect. I just keep trying to do my best, and that is all I can strive for.

BonnieJP 12-17-2020 08:18 AM

One of the published quilting books I have has a photo of a quilt where a block was placed upside down. The author's point was that we all make mistakes. Angela Walters would simply call this a "design choice."

sewbizgirl 12-17-2020 08:41 AM

Love your backing stags!

bearisgray 12-17-2020 08:53 AM

Been there. Done that. Aggravating to do!

oksewglad 12-17-2020 09:01 AM

Oops...and then we move on! It will provide warmth and comfort; and that is why you made it. BTW, I love the blue paisley fabric!

RedGarnet222 12-17-2020 12:47 PM

Well, I don't see any mistakes. It is wonderful.

ladyinpurple135 12-17-2020 04:04 PM

Thank you for setting that myth straight, I got right from an Amish lady years ago that they just don’t have a clue where that came from.

Jingle 12-17-2020 05:09 PM

Beautiful quilt, great color choices. Perfect quilts are never perfect.

sewingsuz 12-17-2020 06:59 PM

Your quilt is very nice and no one will know the difference.

mrs. fitz 12-18-2020 02:28 AM

If anybody notices it, just say it's an ancient symbol of good luck and you added it deliberately.

I like what she said. LOL

juliasb 12-18-2020 06:50 AM

It is a mistake only if you say it is. I had fun looking for it and when I saw it I just smiled. It gives a great deal of character. This is a lovely quilt. I am sure the person that received this quilt is going to cherish it for a lifetime.

MicheleC 12-18-2020 12:05 PM

Your quilt is lovely!

I also agree. It’s a great quilt that someone is going to love.

Teen 12-18-2020 07:39 PM

Yep...happens to everyone.. Just 2 days ago I changed my mind on a color placement after that section was assembled and ...rip rip rip to get to it. I usually just let it go but this one bugged me. I’m getting less anal about mistakes as I get older. Lol..

Your quilt is beautiful...

ube quilting 12-19-2020 06:54 AM

I love the pattern and I don't see any mistakes. I'm going to add this design to one of my future quilts.
