And Now For Something Completely Different

Back in February I was making little felted animals but I found it too diddly and expensive. So I went out and bought a whole unprocessed fleece. Finally...here's the first effort. I call him my Cave Bear. Yes I do own a Simplicity felting machine. The tag curls were hand needled. The background which I"m just as thrilled with is silk, dyed with onion skins. 40"x35"

Oh my GOSH, how sweet! It's got a personality, for sure... I think you're amazing to have done all those crafts to pull this together! I'm curious, what gives the hand-dyed fabric that neat dark colored spiraling line throughout? Is that what is meant by 'tag curls'? I can't tell if those lay on *top* of the fabric or are woven into it... Either way, this is just awesome.

The black lines are pieces of black wool under the silk held in place by the random quilting. Tags are the outermost stands of wool on the fleece, they're not yet matted together like the interior of the fleece. Thanks.
