Just received a Featherweight that I won(?) on e-bay----very little packing and pins falling out of the box every where. The picture on e-bay did show the paint loss but not the mold and dirt-----I did plug it in and it just purrs---so it will be worth the work.....

stpatmom 06-21-2011 09:28 AM

Wow! I would have been scared after finding that in the box. But I'm happy for you that it works. I was sewing with a friend yesterday and she was using her featherweight. They do purr! Congratulations!

can u return to buyer or ask for a discount
I would let Ebay know if you are not satisfied
Is it worth what you paid for it is the first question u need to ask yourself??

bummer

blueangel 06-21-2011 09:31 AM

I hope you got your moneys worth.

ontheriver 06-21-2011 09:31 AM

Big job ahead of you but it will be worth it! Post pic when she is all cleaned up.

suebee 06-21-2011 09:32 AM

Oh my is right! what a mess. Glad it runs good :) after you get her all cleaned up, update us with her beauty.

Painiacs 06-21-2011 09:34 AM

I'd worry about all that mold! Be careful!

sueisallaboutquilts 06-21-2011 09:44 AM

Wow, that's pretty bad for Ebay. I'm glad it works but I can't believe they sent it to you that way :(

Doreen 06-21-2011 09:54 AM

Poor baby machine. She needs some loving care. She's found a home. Take care of her.

Just Me... 06-21-2011 10:05 AM

I would def give feedback on Ebay. I could see where the thread could jumble around in shipping, but not the mold. Wear a mask when cleaning....

Nanamoms 06-21-2011 10:10 AM

Be very careful with that mold and don't keep the machine in your house until it is cleaned. Wear a mask AND gloves!! Mold is so dangerous! So glad she purrs though!

newquilter10 06-21-2011 11:53 AM

WOW!!! What a tangled mess. Good luck!

leatheflea 06-21-2011 11:56 AM

Wow! Needs some TLC but it'll be worth it. If she runs shes good, nothing that a little love won't cure. Congrats on winning the bid and your new baby!

Jennifer22206 06-21-2011 12:06 PM

she looks like a huge project. What an undertaking. At least she sounds good. Be very careful with the mold, I would wear a mask

butterflywing 06-21-2011 12:13 PM

unless you got this at a fantastic price, i would return it. they're not in short supply and you don't need a moldy machine that also needs work.

Sewing Joe 06-21-2011 02:13 PM

Are you sure that's mold and not aluminum rot? Aluminum rot is not something you can readily fix. Typically when that happens, the machine ends up being used for parts. You might want to join the Featherweight group on Yahoo to get some opinions from the gurus on that group.

I have never heard of aluminum rot....after cleaning, it does not appear to be mold (is not affected by wiping or bleach) Metal is rough and white....

dixiechunk 06-21-2011 03:30 PM

I think that's oxidized aluminum.

You need to contact the seller and send that baby back...If the Alum is rotting underneath thaat's not good...Unless you got her really cheap I'd return her...Just my opinion...there are so many good ones out there for a few more bucks you could get one in near mint condition...

alikat110 06-21-2011 06:39 PM

Obviously the seller is not a lover of our craft or the tools that go along with it. Your new baby just needs the TLC she deserves now that she is home!

knlsmith 06-21-2011 06:42 PM

Lol. What a mess! BUT since it runs well it will be even more special when you get it all cleaned up. And think how much better you will know your new baby? Cheers to you. :)

rexie 06-21-2011 07:24 PM

Why does anyone let a machine get in that condition? I'm glad it found a good home that will bring it back to life. Pitiful.

GreatStarter 06-21-2011 07:32 PM

I would notify ebay about the condition and send those pictures unless you saw the mess it was in before you bid on it.
If you want to keep her then clean her up and she will be great to you.

Kat

caliquocat 06-21-2011 07:42 PM

Sure hope this purchase can be reconciled. It's a terrible looking machine which looks as though it may have been in a flood. (or tornado?)

cindy4857 06-21-2011 11:30 PM

makes ya just want to shake someone don't it. I bet it is so glad you adopted it! Hope she conti. to run and purr for you.

I would clean and sand it down and repaint it..it maybe worth it..if not it will look better then you got it so you can resell it, and mabe get more than you paid ..or it maybe better to keep it.. see what is what first..
