I went to an estate sale today and bought a sewing box and these were in it among old sewing needles, wooden spools of thread and other notions I dont know the names for.
I am wondering if the one on the right is a walking foot. |
Not sure of any of them, but #6 and 7 look like they may be for putting in zippers. My zipper foot for my Janome is like those, except it has a indent on both sides.
i know #2 is a seam guide
#2 is a seam guide. It screws to the bed of your machine. #6 and #7 appear to be zipper feet. #5 is not a walking foot but a roller foot. Would like to see a better picture of #1.
2 seam guide 3 button foot 4 cording foot ? would have to see the bottom 5 roller foot 6&7 i believe are zipper feet one for each side of zipper 1 is the one you use to do straight line quilting and use that arm thing to follow previous line of stitching no idea on 8 but it looks like it may clip on bottom of some foot??
#3 looks like it would be for putting on buttons. 6 and 7 for zippers or piping, # 2 looks like a seam guide.
#1 is a quilde for quilting straight lines once you get your first line straight. #2 is a 1/4" guide. I have one on my piecing machine. #3? 4? #5 is an early upper feeder - yes, an early walking foot. # 6 and #7 are for zippers or cording. These are short shank attachments and will fit a lot of modern machine. My fav is a ruffler. It looks like a minature instrument for torture.

will a roller foot #5 work as a walking foot?
I think number one might be a rufler but I would need a better look at it to be sure
#5 in the 2nd pic is for sewing leather, according to one of my manuals.
Number one is for straight line machine quilting. That bar that sticks out to the right of the foot can be set as a guide to help you keep an even distance between rows of stitches.
#8 looks like a feed dog cover for a zigzag machine.
I see it now I thought the foot was two seperate pieces one on top of the other which is why I thought ruffler oops :-)

I have a roller foot similar to #5. I bought it years ago when I needed to sew some vinyl or leather...it was supposed to help feed it through and not stick so much. Can't remember now how effective it was...lol

One is a quide for quilting parallel lines
Two is a seam guide Three is for holding the button while you sew it on Eight covers the feed dogs Five in the second photo with the roller is for leather |
I believe #5 is a foot for working on velvet so that it doesn't crush it. My Mom's Viking has one and I think that is the one she used.

#1 can't see that well but I would say its an adjustable presser foot used for quilting
#2 seam/cloth guide #3 holds Buttons #4 cording foot #5 roller presser foot used for vinyl & velvets #6 right-cording/zipper #7 Left- cording/zipper #8 darning plate I believe these are from an old singer |
You seem to have the answers already, but this is an excellent side for identifying (and buying, if you are in this country) machine attachments http://www.helenhowes-sewingmachines.co.uk

No. A roller foot is made to not stick on the material, and "roll" over it. It doesn't feed the top layers through like a walking foot does. |
thanks ladies.
The only ones I know is 6 and 7. You use to have to have two
zipper foot. One for the left side and the other for the right side. Now we have one foot and just have to side the foot from side to side. |
OK here are my best guesses 1. quilting foot used to keep rows of stitches equal distance apart 2. seam guide that screwed onto bed of machine 3. open toe foot used to hold down buttons when sewing on with machine 4. open toe zig-zag or decorative stitch foot 5, roller foot helped not crush fabrics not evenfeed foot 6&7 edge stitch feet used to sew near edges or for piping and zippers 8. cover for feed dogs when darning
thanks
