Finished sewing for the day ... getting late here and I decide I have to see what will happen with the tube blocks if I use 3 strips ... so I get out what scraps I have left from earlier and sew them. OF COURSE .. I am short one triangle to make a block :? You get the idea though. The one strip stays the same all the way around the block which is a cool difference.
Now I have to call it quits .. no.. really :-D

Tube block - missing a triangle ..

I love it!!! But I think you have come up with two more ideas on it. The three strips of fabric is awesome...but so is the idea of making three and then attaching 3 more to this one...and so on  interesting possiblilities :D:D:D

barnbum 12-14-2009 03:47 PM

Beautiful colors!! Show us more when you can!

sewmuchfun 12-15-2009 09:55 AM

I love your choice of fabrics in this block.

Roberta 12-15-2009 10:40 AM

Don't you hate when that happens. I'm working on a tube quilt right now and just love the whole technique. I'm going to try adding more rows next time. I assume you made the contrast strip larger?

debbie17 12-15-2009 10:46 AM

What is tube blocks, I've never heard of it, is it like jelly rolls?

RedGarnet222 12-15-2009 11:35 AM

I wish I had more time to sew. I will have to live vicariously through you girls for a while. I just love the colors you chose for these blocks. You are doing great!

I just sewed my three strips together measured the finished product and cut the big strip that size.

msoop 12-15-2009 06:54 PM

Very pretty!! Love those colors.

Tiffany 12-15-2009 07:00 PM

I've wondered what it would look like with 3 fabrics and that is gorgeous!!! I'm definitely going to have to try this one - after the holidays!

Nitabug 12-15-2009 07:08 PM

I'm wondering what would happen using a "border print" for the large strip. Think I'll give it a whirl...

MaryAnna 12-15-2009 07:19 PM

I love it! Yes, I'm now addicted too! You did a great job!....and now my creative juices are flowing....hmmm.....how about strings or thinner strips...the more the merrier!
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

I think you're onto something here.....I'm going to give that a try as well, and maybe more strips, only thinner ones......we've got it going on!
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

Shemjo 12-15-2009 08:03 PM

This is just too sweet to not try!

QuiltingGrannie 12-16-2009 04:48 AM

I'm hooked too, but it will have to wait until after the holidays. So much to do, so little time. I find the only problem with more strips is that the larger it (the cut piece) is overall, the fewer you get per 44 inch starter piece. So you need to be exact with each starter piece put together to cut. I see LOTS of varieties coming in 2010! Have fun all!

Google tube quilting - missourquilts.com has a tutorial on it - much easier to find though by googling. You take 2 or 3 strips of equal width sew them together. Then measure the resulting width and cut another fabric strip that size. You then sew it on both sides lengthwise- you get a tube - hence the name tube quilting ... and use a 45 degree line on a ruler to cut triangles. You get a square in a square pattern when the triangles are joined into a block.
Check it out !

Roberta 12-16-2009 09:17 AM

That makes perfect sense. Why didn't I figure that out :( Thanks and I'm trying your technique next one I do.
