Here's what I came up with. The quilt top measures 46 x 68--a nice size. It called for one more row--but I thought that would make it too long. It didn't need that row to complete the design--it kind of made it incomplete. I added it on the Sunflower one, but thought then it was a tad long. I'll add the Sunflower picture too.

Edited to add: The strips in the Sunflower one follow the directions- 1.75 in strips-with 6.75 in squares. The Sunny Day strips are 1.5 and the squares are 5.5. I like the smaller size better. :-)

This makes three tops done to take to the quilters.

Woohooo!!! Good job! :) It's beautiful and the rust frames the quilt center nicely. :)

Three to go to the quilters??? You are a quilting machine girl! ;)

Perfect!

Those are lovely. I put the picture in my "Ideas" file. Someday!!! :D

bj 12-09-2007 09:36 AM

I really like them both. But I'd have to go with the measurements for the Sunflower one. I'd never get the 1.745 consistently. I'm assuming that's a scant 1 3/4? I don't think I have a ruler that's marked off that way :)
Very nicely done.

patricej 12-09-2007 09:59 AM

 bj-- That was a typo!! If I ever saw a measurement like that, I'd turn the page. It did make for a great math lesson for my 5th graders. :D

joy 12-12-2007 11:15 PM

Love your quilts, super pattern.... is the same pattern as the quilt I will be cutting out just after xmas.... great work !!!

joy 12-29-2007 12:41 AM

colours are so right... well done.... now the binding I would use would be the same green material you have just put on last... see how the centre just pops out !!! Any more colours on it would be overdone.. !!! Plain or cloudy borders are the best...

nanabirdmo 12-29-2007 08:31 AM

WOW ... did cha hear me WOW... They look wonderful.. you did such a GREAT job!

barnbum 12-29-2007 10:08 AM

You all are so darned sweet. This topic got popped up again and you are making me blush with your kindness. :)

I chose a yellow flannel for the back, not a solid--genlte blotches of lighter shades--something I had but it will just enhance the whole sunny day feel. Now to get the three backs done and call my quilter.

But I started my barn quilt... and I want to make more string squares with my scraps and I only have 3 more days of vacation!!

Diane007 06-28-2012 09:16 AM

and how did you quilt them ?

Since I'm originally from KS, you KNOW I'm crazy about that sunflower quilt... fabulous! But I wouldn't refuse the "Sunny Days" one either. Great work! Did you get them quilted? Care to share some pix? Please?

SouthPStitches 06-28-2012 12:11 PM

Great quilts and colors.

Helen S 06-28-2012 02:04 PM

Oh gosh--this is a 2007 thread. lol I'm sure there are pics posted of them quilted. The Sunflower quilt was sold, but I saved Sunny Day--although I've made others I like better, so it's for sale now too. :-)

sewmorethings 06-30-2012 03:44 AM

Beautiful quilt, love the green border

kateyb 07-02-2012 05:13 AM

Those are very pretty. The extra long one is great for someone tall as a lap quilt. My daughter is 6 feet tall and I'm sure there are other ladies out there who are as tall or taller.

mom-6 07-02-2012 05:24 AM

Both are beautiful!
I'm guessing the 'strange' dimensions in the first were in order to get a particular size finished square &/or to get a particular fabric repeat on the focus fabric. I've done that a time or two!
Much easier if you can use 'standard' dimensions.
