The old and the new together

Somewhere between 30 and 50 yrs. ago my Aunt Fran embroidered these squares. After she died my Uncle gave the squares to me and I just finished the quilt top using the squares. Why she chose green for the animals I will never know, but I managed to find a fabric that I liked with the embroidery. It is going to stay in the family and will eventually go to my granddaughter if and when she has a family. She is now in college.
The red floral fabric was given to me and I made this 10 minute block out of it. It is going to a charity silent auction in Oct. It was fun to make and the fabric is really not one I would normally choose, but I like it and I added the purple simply because I have always like purple and red together. |
What a treasure...something to cherish. I really love your work, you do a great job.

Wow...love your quilt and I agree what a treasure!

You also just gave me a wonderful idea for my butterfly quilt. Why did I not think of putting a plain block to separate and make the quilt bigger. Thank-you!

Both are beautiful! I'm glad the embroidery blocks are staying in the family!

Great use of the family squares and the red and purple is stunning. I love how your design brain thinks!

She probably used green because she either had a lot in her stash or it was to match a room colour? The blocks look great done into a top and I think I have some of the green leaf fabric in my stash!

Those are some of the most precious hand embroidered blocks I've ever seen! I absolutely love them! What a family heirloom and how nice of you to put them into a beautiful quilt for your DGD, she will surely treasure it for years!
