Old patchwork quilt turned to robe--- Cute!
3 Attachment(s)
I was out at an antiques store today and found this adorable little bathrobe. From old clothes to a quilt to clothing again. Or maybe it was never a quilt because it doesn't have batting. This is very tattered but I saw it as a little gem that wanted to live in my sewing room. Can you imagine what it would say, if it could say anything?

OMG - that reminds me of when my son was little - I had made him a patchwork quilt out of flannel squares. Don't remember what I used for backing or batting. Had some extra squares so I made him a bathrobe too. He had to go to the hospital and spend the night for some tests and he was old enough not to want his "blankie" but did take his bathrobe - which looked and felt just like his blankie.

The stories would be of a child who was well loved and had stories read at night. And prayers listened to. And a hug and kiss...then lights out. Sleep tight!
Oh the stories that robe could tell -- made with love and loved.
How creative they were
What a find! How lucky you are! :)
What a darling little robe of many colors! You were so lucky to find such a gem & it's super lucky to have found such a good home! Oh! The stories!
I'm sure it delighted some little girl! What a treasure. Enjoy it.
That is a treasure. Glad someone has it who will take care of it.
Can't help but think how thrilled the quilt/robe maker(s) would be to know that someone else could appreciate the value of it and take it home to become part of their home. Wouldn't it be interesting to know if the same person that did the patchwork later repurposed it into the child's robe.

This robe is just as cute as can be. What a wonderful way to cuddle up on a cool evening!
Reminded me of the song sung by Dolly....Coat of many colors!....Love it.
What a sweet, little robe! :)
Wow! If I were a still teaching, I would use that as a writing project! If the squares could talk to each other . . . .
Sew glad it found a new home with you.
adorable, what a keen idea
You are lucky, it is just too cute and will look super in a sewing room. Thanks for sharing.

It is a true treasure. I had an old quilt that had been well loved since I was a child. It was in pretty bad shape, so I took the best squares and made pillows. Each square was framed with new fabric and set on point and then sewn to a new back to add strength, then made into pillows. I gave one to each family member. I would love to hear the whole story of each piece.

I love how someone "rescued" the old quilt and gave it a new life as a robe. At one of the quilt shows I went to a few years ago they were selling Christmas stockings that were made of used quilts parts. I also bought a note card that had a quilted heart on the front of the card that was made from an old quilt. I liked it so much I kept it all these years.

LOVE it! Is there a pattern for this?
I can visualize a little girl waking up on Christmas morning wearing this robe and running to check out her gifts, seeing perhaps a new baby doll and grabbing it up and giving it a big hug. What a real treasure you found. Too bad the maker of this jewel isn't known to tell the many stories of this litte robe.
What a treasure!! You have found a coat of many colors. Can only imagine where it started and where it has been :)
What would this robe say? We spent a week at Dolly Wood and visited Dolly Pardon's museum. Low and behold there incased was the "coat of many colors" that she wore. Dolly wrote the lyrics to the song that she sings, "The Coat of Many Colors".
