thank you for any help you can give.

That is a very pretty quilt, but I don't think I have seen that pattern before...

earthwalker 01-02-2010 12:33 AM

Yes, it is a beauty, I haven't seen this pattern before either, so I can't be of help. Perhaps the quilter designed it herself.

thimblebug6000 01-02-2010 06:46 AM

Just a suggestion, you could draft your pattern by just looking at the rows on the diagonal. One row would be all squares, and you could make the other row squares with half square triangles to form the pattern, rather than cutting & piecing those angles.

It's called a Wedding Ring quilt (as opposed to "Double" Wedding Ring...here's a link to a pattern:

The best I could find was this pattern on the last row called confetti

SaraSewing 01-02-2010 08:02 AM

Wow, it's a nice one. I love authentic OLD quilts! It's a nice pattern, so I hope you find one that is exact.

Is each shape appliqued to a whole cloth? They don't look pieced, hard to tell from photo's. What size are the shapes?

Elisabrat 01-02-2010 08:26 AM

I dont know the name of the pattern but it appears its a row of equal sized squares and a row of square, two triangles to make a square, square, two triangles and you would assemble the rows this way on a diagonal. I try to figure out things as I look at them sometimes I am right sometimes I am a mile off but having it right next to you I think you could lay out your pieces to match that one and then assemble as above. I have seen that pattern have you checked quilterscache.com?

patricej 01-02-2010 08:32 AM

the Confetti pattern will recreate that look. i don't own the pattern, so can't say whether or not it replicates the method used for the quilt you have.

your quilt was made by piecing elongated hexagons around square centers. additional squares were used as spaces to plug in the holes between the blocks as they were sewn together. lots of Y-seams.

it's similar to a traditional grandmother's garden.

Y-seams can be a bit tricky by machine, but are very easy to stitch by hand.

Good Morning to you. I just made 3 of these blocks in swaps with my sisters and your old quilt looks sorta of like this block. It is called Shoofly. Does it look the same to anyone else.
Good luck with your search

Sorry, I forgot to add where you can find it.

It is:

Hey welcome to the board, prissy! Could it be a Kansas Dugout? Think I have an older quilt magazine with it. Will do some checking. What a beautiful love worn quilt.

littlehud 01-02-2010 10:33 AM

Very pretty quilt. I'm not familiar with that pattern though.

I agree; this looks like English Paper Piecing in the confetti pattern to me. We usually think of Grandmother's Flower Garden when we think of EPP, but there are lots of designs. This is an interesting site with tutorials:

This on is similiar, but seems to be bigger squares. If you used a single patch in the middle as oppesed to a 4 patch ?

How big are the squares on the original quilt ?

cutebuns 01-02-2010 11:43 AM

I love the old quilt, have you gotten it figured out yet?

Ninnie 01-02-2010 12:08 PM

That's a pretty cool pattern you found!

BellaBoo 01-02-2010 02:30 PM

Looks like a nine patch with snowball corners coordinated to go with matching block.

The quilt book 5,500 quilt patterns is great they have the patterns listed with all the variations and different names listed for each pattern. I found a pattern that I had been looking for,for a long time in that book.

prissy 01-02-2010 08:47 PM

Hi, Have found it. It is an English paper peicing pattern done with Honeycombs. thank you all for your post. Have a blessed Year. P.S. My 11 year old just finished her first quilt today. It was a simple pattern. Her grandmother teaches quilt classes in New Mexico.Maybe it runs in the family.LOL

Leota 01-02-2010 09:12 PM

Congratulations. It's always rewarding when a child shows interest in a family hobby..especially sewing, needle arts, fiber arts and quilting :D

oksewglad I think you're right, because I found the Kansas Dugout in a 1988 QUILT magazine. Prissy the pattern in this magazine is made with templates. PM me if you're interested.
