A few folks have commented on my lack of blabber lately. I've been trying to clear a backlog of overdue projects. i still have an overdue twin quilt and some cushion covers to knock out for a client. then it's back to the pile of gifts i'll never finish in time. lots of IOUs going out this year.

I found these preprinted cuties among the craft supplies i inherited from my mom. it took more than 20 years, but i finally put some of them to use. this quilt goes to a client i know will appreciate the sentimental value and take proper care of it. the rest will go into gifts (but not this year. LOL)

it's still a bit damp, but does block to a nice rectangle.

Merry Christmas to all ... from my Mom and me :P

kathy 12-12-2007 03:37 AM

How darling! I know your mom would be glad that you finally did something with them.

Country Quilter 12-12-2007 03:59 AM

Patrice, ...those are adorable!! I too, have tons of things given to me...."I'll give it to Patsy, she will do something with it!" LOL

Someday, never seems to get here! I also may be giving out IOU's this year. I received an order for 4 quilts from the craft shop and I am just about done with the 4th one and then I had a list of Christmas things to make and don't know IF I will get them done! Oh well!

Anyway, your quilt is so cute!!!

Knot Sew 12-12-2007 04:47 AM

very nice, you don't post enough pics of your work.....what we have seen is great.........guess you are to busy helping all of us :D

2 Doods 12-12-2007 06:55 AM

I recognize those. My mom made some into ornaments (stuffed) when the grandkids were ltiile. They all hung on the bottom of the tree and her good ones were out of reach.

I like them quilted better! Very festive!

estherblair 12-12-2007 07:41 AM

i like it i like it, super daughter :D

newquiltertoni 12-12-2007 09:00 AM

Nice, I am sure your mom would be proud!

ShellyQ 12-12-2007 09:11 AM

That's lovely Patrice  , your Mum would be so pleased to see them put to good use and that's great it's going to someone who will appreciate the value of it

This is adorable. You both did good work. Kyia

Chele 12-12-2007 02:10 PM

Very cute! Love the retro fabric. You put everything together expertly. Really enhanced the preprinted fabrics. NICE!

patricej 12-12-2007 05:32 PM

2 Doods remembers correctly. That's exactly what Mom was preparing them for. in fact, i had to take them apart. using them in a quilt just seemed so much easier than all that clipping and fussing to get them rightside out for stuffing. besides ... they go twice as far this way.

thanks, all for the compliments. i haven't posted many photos because although i have started many, many quilts this year, i'm afraid i haven't you-know-whated more than a very few.

it's a nice boost for my ego to be paid the compliment of getting paid for my work. but i think i liked it better when i could work at my own pace on whatever caught my fancy, then just donate it somewhere. i can't wait 'til i clear this backlog so i can go to town on some kiddie quilts for a community cause or two.

thanks again :P

Flying_V_Goddess 12-12-2007 09:47 PM

Personally, I don't like the colors. Sorry. Just my personal preference so don't shoot me. lol. But I do like the design and you have nice workmanship.

I like them Patrice. They are charming and remind everyone of childhood.

Diamonds 12-13-2007 12:52 PM

Ireally like it... It's beautiful..

bj 12-13-2007 01:13 PM

I think the blocks made a very sweet quilt. I especially like the decorative stitching you did around the blocks. Very nice indeed. It would be hard for me to give away with the mom connection!

patricej 12-13-2007 02:51 PM

it was easy to sell it to this particular client. she understands and appreciates my smooshy sentiments. i know she'll give it all the care and respect i would. i'll bet it will be passed down for a generation or two.

i have some international angels, too. i did get them appliqued to backgrounds, but they'll have to wait 'til next year. they'll be divided up to make quilts for my father, my niece and her brand new husband, and my nowhere-near-brand-new-old-geezer-brother and his wife-who's-my-sister-in-more-than-law.

i can't take credit for the deco-stitches. only for picking them out. built into my machine. but thanks all the same. :P

These are words we all live by here on the quiltingboard.

You sure got the cute factor all stitched up there! Way to go! I love how bright and cheery it is. Just like the holiday! :D

imaquilter 12-17-2007 11:53 AM

OMG!!!!

IF I HAD KNOWN YOU HAD THOSE I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THEM FROM YOU!

MY MOTHER MADE THOSE INTO ORNAMENTS FOR OUR CHRISTMAS TREE WHEN I WAS ABOUT 5. SO, 29 YEARS AGO. EXACT SAME ONES.

I AM GOING TO SEE IF I CAN GET A PICTURE OF MY TREE WITH THEM UP CLOSE AND POST.

YES, I PUT THEM ON MY TREE EVERY YEAR. THE KIDS LOVE THAT THEIR NANA MADE THEM AND THAT THEY WERE PASSED FROM OUR FAMILY TREE TO THEIRS.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE. THEY ARE SO OLD, I NEVER DREAMED I WOULD SEE ANYONE ELSE WITH THEM.

thanks for the sweet support. but, really, i wasn't offended, disappointed, or hurt in the least. goddess just had her crankypants on that day, i guess.

besides, i wouldn't want anybody to think i couldn't think of something nice to say whenever i don't post a compliment. truth is, i'd never get anything else done if i said all the great things there are to say about everything you guys post here. and that boss of mine insists i show up at the office once in a while. go figure.

Celeste 12-17-2007 11:43 PM

What I really like are the triangles in the border! It is so unexpected! For some reason it brought a smile to my face! :D

patricej 12-18-2007 03:36 AM

you are quite welcome, my dear. i can't believe you can even think of a new quilt at this particular moment in time. you are my hero!!!

Patrice:
I have a ton of those little cloth ornaments too. They are tucked away in a drawer in the basement (for about 40 years!) I might have to resurrect them and do what you did and make them into a quilt rather than into ornaments for the tree we NO LONGER put up! Yes, I said no longer put up. We foster kittens and learned a few years ago kittens and Christmas trees don't necessarily mix well. Now we put the tree up outside in front of our picture window and decorate it with silk flower poinsettias and let the kittens "try" to climb the window rather than the tree.

patricej 12-21-2007 08:58 AM

we had a tree one year, plus kitten, plus cat, plus dog

the cat would eat the tinsel. the dog would play with whichever ornaments she could reach. and the kitten had a blast climbing around in it. i rearranged the ornaments so the lower were unbreakables. didn't bother replacing the tinsel, but "enjoyed" the decorated litter box, and eventually got used to that little face or just the shining eyes peaking at me from the branches.

luckily, no animals were hurt in the living or telling of this story so i feel free to laugh at the memory. :P

How cute! I can see it all now.

That is SOOOOOOOOOOO neat that you were able to use those. They made a lovely quilt - you and your Mom did "GOOD"!

Maybe you should do something with at least some of the others to keep for yourself? Just as a remembrance?? Community quilts can wait. You might make a nice "snuggle" quilt for yourself with 1 or 2 in it plus any other pieces from Mom that will remind you of nights on the sofa with your head in her lap = "comfort time".

After I get a little better - I have a few of those to use.

grammy 01-07-2008 07:44 PM

Thanks for the kind words!

For my Christmas quilt, I just used some sampler blocks in Christmas colors. Some of the applique came from enlarging pictures from Christmas cards. I gave the quilt to my son and his wife. I do plan to make another one for myself when I get time.
