Who knew that one star could take so much time? This is my first feathered star and it hasn't been too bad but you know what was the hardest part? The stupid Snowball in the middle!! I am not exaggerating when I say that I did each of those corners at least twice! After re-doing one of them 4 times I resorted to taking off the corner pieces, leaving them how they were ironed with the 1/4 seam, and laying them on top to MARK where the dang seam should be!! It still didn't come out perfect but I was so fed up that I said, "forget it!"

I know it is easier to use a square for the corner than a triangle and let me tell you, the next 3 stars are going to be done that way. I have the Marti Michell templates that make the star and it has those double-cut corners where you line the flattened points up. I didn't just do a square in the first place because of those corners.

I think it's beautiful! You have more guts than I do. I wouldn't attempt it!!

Ok... I'm breathing. It just frustrates me that I line those cut off corners up perfectly and then when I flip over the triangle it's hanging out over the edge of the square so I knew it wasn't going to line up when I put the side pieces on.

I'll check the other squares that are cut out for the 3 other middles. They are 8 9/16 square. I might have to use the builder's square because the 12 1/2" quilter's square doesn't have 1/16th measurements, just 1/8th, so I eyed it. I'll check the cut triangles too.

Yes, I'm making a quilt for my daughter with 4 of these stars in the middle though I haven't decided on what the rest of it will be yet.

I made a quilt that has 16 (I believe that is the right count) in it. The FIRST one is the hardest one to make. The second one & the ones afterward seem to just come together. I must have taken that first one apart 10 times.

I seem to have not taken a px of the finished project, though all the stars are there. It is in the 4th album in the link that follows my signature. I received a LOT of FQ for a special birthday from friends & I had hoped to showcase them in a special way, so I chose a Feathered Star blocks. (I take lousy px)

Well there is your problem....I always think that I can "eye" something and it will work....it NEVER does! There are so many angles in what you are doing that you will have to be exactly perfect on each one for them to match up correctly.....can you say I have patience...patience...patience... :wink:

Your FS are wonderful!! I'd go crazy if I had to make 16 of them. All of your work there is fabulous and I know that it represents countless hours, months, years.

Do you ladies find that as we get older we get more exact? I know when I first started that things being off were no big deal to me... at least I did it! Now, the challenge is making it the best I can.
