They are from commerical fabric. Several people have asked the name of the designer, but I had fussy cut the fabric up so much that the name was lost. Would like to say I did a much fancier techinique.

dglvr 06-15-2011 05:07 PM

Wow thats beautiful. You did a great job on it.

Well there is ALLOT of quilting. All the grass is done in a wisppy swaying motion, same with the birch branches. The background and border is a REAL tight meander. LOTS of thread!!! This was all done on my domestic machine.

Just-Lee 06-15-2011 05:08 PM

Ahh, love at first sight!

I love landscape quilts the most, for the same reasons, but I have yet to make one. Any tips would be great!

Stunning!
And please do tell us more about the process ... please? and thanks!

My piece was made with all commerical fabrics, nothing was hand dyed. All of the fabrics was either fussy or messy cut. I had a photo that I had brought with me. But it was not copied exactly, but resembled the photo. Allot of the fabrics were altered with markers, pastels, and or office supplies.
If you are not able to take a class with Natalie Sewell, my best advise is to purchase the very reasonable cd that Natalie Sewell and Nancy Zieman put out a few years back called "The Art of Landscape Quilting" Nothing ever takes the places of taking the class in person but this is a well covered cd for this process to make these quilts.
Hope this helps in your journey. If you lived closer I would invite you over for coffee and to play with landscape fabrics.

Thanks for the further info ... I checked your blog and learned a wee bit more. IAnd totally agree, nothing is quite the same as the IRL experience! Plus you ge tto really catch the enthusiasm from the people. Curious as to what markers and office supplies you used. Am thinking by pastels, you are talking the same as what artists would use? You can call me, VERY intrigued!

I would be more than happy to call you. Just PM me your phone number and I can call and chat!!! Helen

Queen Anne's lace - one of my favorite "weeds". My mother's name was Anne and I stop by the roadsides to pick it. I could pick it straight from this beautiful quilt. Thanks for tonight's smile. It's lovely.
