I made this quilt for my daughter in the mid 80's and the fabric of choice then, was polyester, so this is what I came up with. I backed it with flannel, and used an old blanket for the batting. The beginning of why I am a SPARTAN QUILTER, and off to college it went. She married, her husband claimed it, and 2 children have added to the use of it. I eventually had to put a second flannel backing on it in the late 90's. Just this past month, guess what? He needed another new flannel backing on it. The colors are a little faded, but has really held up well. I told my daughter that she may have to figure out how to do it the 4th time, as I may not be able to do it again in 10 years.

I think it is funny that the polyester lives on. That is some tough stuff.

I have a couple of the polly quilts my mom made for me, they are very warm, also heavy and wear like iron. Mine have held up good with bed sheets for backing. Thank you for bringing back the memories.

Wonderful that the quilt is so well loved and used. My cousin made a quilt for her mother couple years ago and mom put it in a box and won't use it. Won't even keep it out on the bed or back of the couch. She never sees it, doesn't want it to get ruined or damaged. I sorta understand, but think the quilt should be out to be seen.

That polyester wore like iron & it's proven it. We have one my MIL made years ago, still feels good on cold nights.

??? ? So when did polyester become a 'no no' in quilt making? and why?
