This quilt is the reason I had to take a break from the site for a little while. The top had been done for quite awhile and I kept telling my son I'd get to it, but the task seemed so daunting that I kept putting it off. I finally PROMISED him that I would start on it right after Christmas, and you know you can't break a promise to one of your kids :P

He's 6'1" and you can't see him in the pic, so you can tell how huge it is. I think it finished at 94"x94". He wanted me to make him a quilt using all civil war repros, but I cheated and used a Moda for the background, so wound up naming this quilt "Civil Disobedience" LOL

Why is it I can NEVER get my pics in the right order? LOL

b1pegasus 04-28-2008 05:22 AM

all I can say is WOW
wonderful job I bet your son loves it

tlrnhi 04-28-2008 05:26 AM

That is so awesome!

Do you quilt that or send it out?

lin 04-28-2008 05:35 AM

I did the quilting. That's the part that took me so long that I had to take a break from here to get it all done. I'm the slowest quilter on the planet. LOL

kathy 04-28-2008 05:39 AM

oh wow lin, it's fabuloso!!!!! what kind of machine do you have? You did a wonderful job.

Chele 04-28-2008 05:42 AM

Lin, that is just gorgeous. Your quilting is breathtaking.

tlrnhi 04-28-2008 05:45 AM

WOW!! You did all that? IMPRESSIVE! If it were me, I'd still be doing it 30 years from now!

Izy 04-28-2008 05:48 AM

Lin that is outstanding, I bet your son appreciates just how much love you hae poured into this quilt, I admire your determination and hopefully one day I might just manage one myself as I love quilting, but its gonna take a long time before I get to your standard - if EVER!! :?

Thank you all SO much. Hearing kind remarks makes it all the effort worthwhile. :)

Kathy, I have Juki TL-98 Q machine. It's been such a wonderful machine. It has an 8½"x5 3/4" throat area, so a lot will fit into that space. I did this one on the diagonal and managed to get a little over half in there with no trouble.

Izy 04-28-2008 06:01 AM

Lin do you have your quilt on a frame :?: :-D

lin 04-28-2008 06:04 AM

No Izy, I don't own a frame. I'm not sure I'd have room for one. But if I came across a used long arm that I could afford, you can be sure I'd MAKE room!

Rebecca Chambley 04-28-2008 06:09 AM

He's pretty proud of it Rebecca. He asked me right away what would be the proper way to store it when not in use. That impressed me. :)

I think the first one we attach is the last one that shows up; the last will show up first. Don't know why, but I think it does it on everyone's. hehe.

barnbum 04-28-2008 03:09 PM

Wow, wow, wow. That is amazing. It needs to be entered in some kind of competition. You win the blue ribbon!!! :D

mgshaw 04-28-2008 04:18 PM

Love It Love It Love It!!!!!!!!!! I have devoloped an extreme weakness or maybe it is just a full fledge addiction to civil war reproduction fabrics. I have been collecting charms squares and joined a FQ club in civil war repros. I plan( after all wip"s are done) to make a pattern called "Heritage Squares" from an old issue of "Quiltmaker" mag.(05) but dont know now, yours is just pretty darned awesome ,love the pattern, well the whole thing actually

fabuchicki 04-28-2008 05:07 PM

Wow! Clap, Clap, Clap! Great Quilting.

amma 04-29-2008 11:16 AM

lin 04-29-2008 01:20 PM

Thank you for the nice comments ladies. :)

jacquemoe 04-30-2008 09:14 AM

You did all that quilting on your sewing machine?????? I'm am soooooooo impressed. You must have started on January 1 and did nothing else but quilting until now. That is awesome!! The top is very impressive too.

lin 04-30-2008 10:54 AM

Thanks Jackie :) I'm not sure how many hours I have in the quilting, but it took me about 4 weeks or so working some most every day. I can do about 4-6 hours (taking small breaks) and then I have to get away from it for awhile. It did get heavy at times. :D

Now, of course, my OTHER son wants a king. LOL He'll be waiting awhile for that one. He already has a few of my quilts, but I never made one "especially for him". You know how that goes.

joy 05-01-2008 02:06 PM

That quilt is really something.... what talent....you have done so well....can I rub shoulders with you? Hopefully some of your talent would rub off on to me !!!
