The quilt pictured is my very first memory of my maternal grandmother. It is old and faded but still the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen. My grandma lived in Boston while we were in Washington State. The first time I met Grandma I was very young. She brought this quilt with her to show us. It felt soft, the colors were so beautiful and the combinations so pleasing. She sat with me and told me the story of every fabric in the quilt. My grandma was not a warm and fuzzy woman but I would not call her cold, perhaps more like private. I cherish the time we shared getting to know each other and the physical reminder in that quilt of a woman and I loved and respected. Both my grandmas were women ahead of their time... but that is a story for another day.
