Told you I had some quilt tops that 'had been around awhile' :!:

Back in prehistoric times before quilting became all the rage, it was really hard to find decent fabrics for quilting - I know, hard to believe... but true. There weren't all these really nice quilt shops and if you did happen to find one, the prices were outrageous...
which explains the really putrid colors of this quilt and why it's been around so long....
I hated it - it took me from 1988 to 1994 just to get the top completely pieced... and then it was stuck away and I drug it out the other day along with a bunch of other tops that I made 'back then' (80s-90s) and decided to do my practicing on the Bailey set up with them....

So - it's FINALLY finished - I just played around with free hand stuff for the quilting and then after I started I decided it wasn't so bad after all
And I wished I had been more careful with doing the freehand stuff cause it's kinda neat - geez.....

I think it is beautiful. And you really did a nice job on the quilting.

Izy 09-18-2008 10:06 AM

Janeen, I think it is gorgeous...how could you not LOVE it?? or did you just get sick of it in the process....thats how I feel about my first sampler after two years on and off...... :D

I'm guessing Izy is right that you just got tired of it because that is really nice.

here's a closeup - :-)

Well, it was worth waiting for. :D Your quilting looks great! How are you liking your Bailey? I have a Juki on my HQ frame and want to get a machine with a larger throat.

lorib 09-18-2008 11:40 AM

I think your colors look great!

Janeen 09-18-2008 11:40 AM

I LOVE the Bailey!

and I'm so glad we decided on the 15" - it uses the full size of the available space of the Little Gracie II

Chele 09-18-2008 11:58 AM

if your practice quilting looks that good - and it DOES look goooooooooooooooooooooooood - your work will be spectacular before long.

you may not like the colors but i'll bet many, many others like them very much. now ... and in another 20 years.

Janeen, I am in agreement with everyone else. Your quilt and your quilting is fabulous. Doesn't it feel great to get it finished??

sewnsewer2 09-18-2008 07:27 PM

Well it's about time you finished it.

Really, it is very very pretty.

Peggy McFadden 09-19-2008 03:19 AM

Very nice, and doesn't it make you feel good to have completed it? :D

reneebobby 09-19-2008 04:16 AM

ummmmm well i really like it and you know i have a home. lol Great job and as for practice I think you did really good.

laparshall 09-20-2008 04:01 AM

It is too bad that you are so turned off by the colors. I agree with everyone else, it is a very nice looking quilt. But if you really hate it, maybe you might consider donating it to a charity. They love to receive quilts to raffle or auction off. And you could use the donation for a tax write-off. Someone would be very happy to own your beautiful quilt.

I really like it!! The colors are great! It's the perfect top to practice quilting on--and that, too, looks terrific! You sure are having a grand ole time with your new machine! :D

sandpat 09-20-2008 04:50 AM

Your "practice" piece looks pretty good to me! It doesn't matter if you have a little wobble here and there....say they are Character marks...you know the quilt IS 20 yrs. old...and has gathered a few "wrinkles" like the rest of us with age!! It turned out to be really pretty.

rein 09-20-2008 06:01 PM

Janeen - it is LOVELY! The quilting - everything! Since you hate it so much, I will send you my ady - I will be glad to pay the postage!!!!!

Seriously - you should be proud of your work - it is super. And, by the way, I truly do like it a lot.

nor'easter 09-21-2008 04:08 AM

I think it's super...don't see anything yucky about the colors at all, especially since they are those of my alma mater...Western Michigan University!! Go Broncos!! 8) And your quilting is really great for "practice". Thanks for sharing. :-)

Janeen: Your quilting looks wonderful and the colors of your quilt are what was so popular 20 or 30 years ago...brown, harvest gold, avacado! In those days, EVERYTHING was one of those colors! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your quilting machine. It looks like you are a pro! Lovely.

Not sure why you see it as being ugly.......it's really not. Keep going on your quilting...think you did a great job.
