Sorry, no suggestions ...just wanted to tell you how adorable your quilt is!

I would use a marrow or zig zag stitch very close stitching, like the edge of napkins etc. And do use the colors of the dresses as it will add real value to your quilt, if they match, very artistic and worthwhile. I know, it is a lot more work.
You will be so pleased though in the end. I would be proud to own that quilt.

I would also match the thread to each piece of fabric so it all blends nicely. I love the idea of a green border since the SS's are all floral and green goes with flowers.

So cute. I'd use cream or natural.

First off, I love what you have done already! I have this pattern, but haven't done anything with it yet...you give me great inspiration!! I recently made an applique quilt with all different vehicles, themed for a small boy...I ended up using matching thread to each different color of each piece of the different vehicles...I know a lot of work, but I tried using just black, just grey, and just white, ended up liking matching each the best...as far as the sashing, I love greens, so that would be my choice...
Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see it all finished, however you decide to do it, I know it will be awesome!!

I would use a verigated stitch for applique, light pastels to coordinate, with a blanket stitch. Way cute blocks

I have different thoughts on this one than some other folks - Since the pieced patchwork blocks are SO colorful (and pretty) I would probably go for more contrast in the Sue blocks to make them stand out a bit more and kind of balance the two blocks - i.e. in the block with pink dress and green hat, I would use green thread on the pink dress and pink thread on the green hat, maybe a shade or two darker/brighter than the fabric colors. A narrow fairly short zigzag stitch is nice and quicker than buttonhole but one I made a grandneice several years ago with buttonhole has held up quite well thru numerous washings!

Your quilt looks great! I think snice you ask, I would do a mixture of pastel colors.
On the white back ground & white or creme on sun bonnet sue.
But I am a new one to quilting may not know what I am talking about.
