I had a jelly roll with various sort of batik fabrics in 3 colours, half are blue, a quarter are pink and a quarter are green. I chose a pattern, and made a start. Now I'm failing to chose a final layout between these two (apologies for the rough layout - the white bedsheet wont show through the gaps on the final!). I reckon asking my other half would get a "whats the difference?", so I was hoping to get a few opinions from people on here...

Many thanks
Sarah

I like the 2nd one best.

I think number two too

MadQuilter 03-31-2009 02:47 PM

That's a tough one. I like number one because it has movement down the center and I like the second because it is more symmetrical. (I'm going by the pink) Either way will be pretty  sorry that was NO help at all.

Justquilting 03-31-2009 02:49 PM

I think #2 is more pleasing to the eye...at least my eye
It's going to look great either way!!

Up North 03-31-2009 03:12 PM

I was drawn to the second one.

Machel 03-31-2009 03:18 PM

I like #2 as well easy on the eyes

Debbie1 03-31-2009 03:19 PM

I like the second one best - it pattern pops out a little better than the first one

leona07 03-31-2009 03:25 PM

I like them both, but i am leaning toward the second one because my eyes were drawn to it first. I am guessing this is because the center is an X so if draws you in to the center, whereas the first one is a diamond shape.

Jim's Gem 03-31-2009 03:27 PM

I vote for the second one it looks more symetrical.

kpc 03-31-2009 04:34 PM

I like the 2nd one also.

sewsewquilter 03-31-2009 04:48 PM

I lean to the second one also. Pleasing to the eye.

Keep us updated! Love to see the finished quilt.

sewjoyce 03-31-2009 05:15 PM

I like the second one best, too! It really brings out the blue!

kimmers 03-31-2009 05:29 PM

I really like the 2nd one best. Whichever you choose is going to look great! Love the colors

tlrnhi 03-31-2009 05:59 PM

I like numba 2!

RedGarnet222 03-31-2009 06:09 PM

I concur setting two. LoL!

littlehud 03-31-2009 07:07 PM

I like #2. Just satisfies my sense of order.

Deb G 03-31-2009 08:54 PM

I like the 2nd one the best.

BlueChicken 03-31-2009 09:23 PM

I like number 2 as well. The pattern is easier on the eye I think.

:-)

TeresaP 03-31-2009 09:25 PM

The second one does it for me too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dithers about the layout of blocks. The trouble is there are usually too many options.

I agree, number two because it's easier to look at, but why????

gcathie 03-31-2009 10:27 PM

I too am leaning towards number two......:-)

Joan 03-31-2009 10:31 PM

I vote for the second one, too. Beautiful fabrics!

I think that although the pink is the brighter colour, the blue is the strongest and most predominant, and that's where the eye goes first. In the first layout, trying to make sense of the blue is hard work, whereas in the second the pattern is clear, the eye isn't having to hunt for it.

No idea what the "official" reason is, but that's my thoughts on it. :-)

Thats great you guys! You're always a great help!
A fairly unanimous decision made.
Now I just have to finish it all, and post a picture when I'm done!

Jeannie 04-07-2009 10:21 AM

Beautiful fabric and layout on either one.

How wide were the strips (I have not used jelly rolls yet) and what is the size of your block.
Thanks

Judith 04-07-2009 11:32 AM

I really like the way that number two looks. Nice job!

sewaholic 04-07-2009 01:42 PM

Another No: 2

Knot Sew 04-07-2009 02:44 PM

I like the colors and i like 1 and 2

Shemjo 04-07-2009 02:48 PM

I like number 2 also. It appears orderly at once.

molly4503 04-07-2009 04:10 PM

Both are very nice, but I really like #2.

MissTami 04-07-2009 04:35 PM

I love those colors and I thing the second one fits you better.
Hope this helps.
